1st autox
1st autox
This last Sunday was my first event. Had a great time. Being a novice I was kinda nervous but that faded quickly. I ran consistently 49s after my first run at 55 seconds. I figured with all season tires and a few other things that was a pretty good go. What would be good tires for autox?
No no no no no.
NT05 will never be a competitive autox tire and will shred like you out a cheese grater to them after only a few events. The Invo should never even come close to an autocross conversation.
It really depends on a bunch of factors. How many events a year? How much do you drive each month? What is your budget? Can you afford a 2nd set of wheels (best option)? What are your mods? Lnf or lsj?
Generally the Dunlop Z2, BFG Rival and Hankook RS3 are the main contender in the street tire classes.
For DOT slick classes the Hoosier A6/A7 are your best bet hands down.

Bridgestone Potenza RE71R are a newer tire that are supoosed to be pretty good, too. Right up there with the RS3 and Z2. I'll be picking up a set for car shortly. I'm running BFG G-force Sport Comp 2's right now. They're good, but nowhere near as grippy as the afore mentioned tires.
he is just a beginer there is no need to run slicks.
i have done numerous events on nt05's with out any problem. I did a few prior on DZ1's.
They were both great tires.
i run 225/40/18 on an 18x8 wheel.
i forgot what psi i was running them at but i did have the rears set a little higher than the fronts.
as you do more events you will learn the car better. Its a ton of fun though.

I got Bridgestone potenza 760 sport tires over the weekend. They seem like good tires. Great traction decent price. My next event won't be til June, the races are once a month. I'm out of town for the May race. I'm going to have two sets by winter hopefully. My old tires weren't in great shape.
They aren't really competitive with the faster cars(Vette, s2k, frs/brz), but they hold their own. My last race, I placed 2nd out of 8(STX) behind another Cobalt TC that is setup really well, and ahead of a Miata(not specced), and a slightly worked over 1st gen Neon ACR. From what I hear, the TC's were the car to have for autox when they came out.
the time is always going to be different depending on the course each and every one will be different.
the longer and more often you do it, the faster you will get. You learn the car and figure out how to get around the course faster. Each run you do you should knock off something on your previous time.
the LSD will make a world of a difference as well as some better tires. A rear sway bar will also help out a ton. New control arm bushings also help a lot.

OP my last autox was a blast...I was running nt05 in the wet...car felt pretty neutral but I wasnt pushing it really as evident of my horrible times still was fun tho
It was a lot of fun. I have time before my next event. there's a lot for me to learn. I'm waiting to install my stage 2 stuff so I stay in street class. I will be changing bushings etc as I go just a general idea I wanted to do. I would think a sway bar throw me in a higher class?

only if someone inspects under there lol
i never ran with anything but the bmw and porshe clubs so if you were not a bmw or porshe you were just classed based on your motor size and FI. I never had to worry about what mods i had because of this.

I'm not sure how they class people. They ask for your mods on the website when your registor for the event. I could do a sway bar, paint it black so it wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb. But it's also my dd so I shy want to get to crazy
Jimbo, it depends on what class you're running. If you are looking to run street touring, you can have all of those mods. I run STX and am allowed both a rear sway bar and poly bushings. Here are the rules for Street touring:

I'm running in scca sponsored events. My buddy actually is an organizer of the event. The northwest Indiana region. the next race I can go is grisson aeroplex. Otherwise it's at the majestic star casino hotel parking lot.
