anyone road racing a Cavalier ?
I tried searching but didn't come up with anything.
As I recall there was a fix for road racing Cavalier's regarding the front hub's which don't last very long on track. Didn't the " factory " car's end up running a G5 front hub ?
If so are any mod.'s needed to fit a G5 hub to an '04 Cavalier ?
thanks,

You might have better luck on some of the J-body specific sites, but I just dug up the link to this thread over on j-body.org that covers a brake upgrade swap using '99+ N-body parts (GMX-130 platform, i.e. Alero, last gen Grand Am, etc. and not the older N-body cars) that involves using the aluminum spindle/bearing/hub assembly from those cars. It should give you the added strength you're looking for but does involve a bit of parts swapping. Be sure to read everything and check your parts as I think there were some late axle changes when they started using the Ecotec in the Cavalier.
As a side note the GMX-130/N-body hubs were modified for use by the factory backed Cobalt race cars in the Gran Am Cup and other series so it should be plenty capable. I'm not sure what series if any you're competing in and if you might be limited by class rules to suspension/brake upgrades but that's something you may want to consider as well.
I have an older Achieva N-body track car that is very similar to the J and L-body cars and from some of the racing teams back in the day they said in endurance events they would eat through front wheel bearings pretty quickly (the later GM OEM replacement parts seemed to work best). The rear was even worse and SCCA was petitioned and allowed a conversion to larger heavy duty A-body bearings along with a Saturn SC2 rear disc brake conversion, probably on grounds of safety, as the stock N-body wheel bearings for the rear would also let go under severe duty and dropping a wheel wouldn't be fun. I don't know how much if any issue this would be with the J-body as I don't know anyone that has done road racing or similar events and also if the '95+ refresh got an updated bearing design compared to the older J/L/N-body but that might be something else for you to look into.
