ordering springs tomorrow. Giving myself a night to think. 10k is to high for the rear thats done. Im thinking 9k all around or 8kfront and 9k rear. nice thinkg about going 8k&9k is i can switch them front to rear if needed.

I like the idea of 9k all around to keep it balanced just cause i feel 8k will be to soft. Like i said, a night to think.

one quick question for some people on rebound! I think I know but I just want to make 100% sure.

When playing around with rebound, if the shock is rebounding slower than its a stiffer rebound right? And if its rebounding faster its softer? For some reason I have myself all confused on this cause in my head if its rebounding faster for rebound that should be stiffer.

Rebound set stiff = shock resists extending. Just compressing it and letting it extend isn't a good test. The velocity is too low, and pretty much any pressurized shock will expand. Some twin tubes may not, since they are pressurized lower (75 psi or so for Koni, I think...).

I get robound backwards sometimes too. Remember stiffer = it moves slower.

Now I was just compressing it then letting it extend but I was surprised at the rebound stiffness of the FE5 struts. Much more than the Konis when they were at 1/2 from soft and I can feel that too going over uneven pavement. I want to try a bit more stiffness up front, maybe a full turn off soft?

I like 1 full turn from soft, feels like FE5s but with better compression damping

I doubt the Konis stray far from stock compression damping, though your stockers may have been worn by the time you swapped. Really wish Koni would have sent me the front dynos, or told me so that I could have just taken them up to RRT to use their Roehrig dyno.

Konis typically have quite a bit more rebound than stock. My scientific jump up and down on the front core support agrees with this theory

in my ever changing automotive mind i know i am selling the cobalt this fall, or trading it in. Im talking with evasive on where my springs are, if they dont have them im going to cancel the order and sell off the parts now or later. Im going to keep the sway bar cause if i do run it stock i think i will run some national tours where they have started an F, A and R street tire class.

Ill keep everyone posted, and if you want dibs on the parts let me know.

Too bad man, I was really looking forward to your exp with the new springs!
Good luck either way.

I'm having trouble deciding on coilovers and springs because all the disc makes me feel there are no really good choices out there? KW's and Pedders seem to be the best available though. Hope either one is an improvement over stk? Guess we'll see.

If you havent bought yet, see what you can do for getting a set of konis or bilsteins made by a shop that makes them custom, pick your springs, then get them valved for the springs.

Do you plan to run F Stock? Btw I ran my SS/TC at a Nasa-X and it was a blast. First time in a FWD car lol. Finished 5th overall out of 18 drivers overall and 1st in NX-C.

No plans to run Fstock yet. At the milwaukee scca we have a strong street tire class and thats always a blast. I wont the national street tire event in the F class last year showing all what the cobalt can do I think I was 7th overall

National Street Tire Challenge

I just dont want to spend the money on Rcomps so im all for the street tire classes the SCCA is looking into. Right now at the national tour events they will have an F, A, and R class called Road Tire so RTF RTA and RTR.

Yeah I have been keeping track on the debates on SCCAForums regarding the new RT classing. Too bad RT is only for stock cars. My car already has a few mods that I dont feel like removing just to run RT. May just put a stock shifter back in and play in STX.

yeah but the nice thing is when you have a good well classed stock car and can do well. The cobalt is classed right for sure, other cars on street tires can be over dogs lol. I stay away from scca forums when it comes to that stuff, gets anoying to read everyones bickering.

Hmm I am debating on trying to put the car back to stock class rules and trying to run the RTF class at the Blytheville tour. I debate how the SS/TC will do against the Mini Cooper S and ITR on 140 treadwears.

the cobalt does quite well on street tires in stock form. If you look at the results from national street tire event you will see John Ma, he won nationals in 2010 in D stock. all the top people in F that weekend were pro drivers and i dont think Im at pro level yet lol. So it does well.
