Help with figuring out what class I am...

Ok. So I've read all though the SCCA rule book, but I just want to be sure...

I'm pretty sure I am SMF, since that seems to be just about anything you can do without going completely over the top, at least for the Cobalt world.

Seems like the main thing putting me there is the smaller supercharger pulley, since the other classes don't let you touch that, correct?

And yeah, I'm now finding it would have been smarter to stay stock, but meh. I already did the mods, and now want to get into autocross, at least enough to see what I can do.

I can post up my full mod list list, but that's the only one I'm not sure about.

Thanks!

Class for what? I'm assuming SCCA but you need to be a little more specific.

Sounds about right. Anytime you turn up the boost you fall right into SMF. Its the same class I'm in.

Btw, I noticed your from Chicago. You should come up and autocross at Miller Park sometime. A few Cobalts usually show up. Infact, I will be at the October event there.

I'll tell you which class you're in for 20 bucks.

Or a truck boat truck

You're irrelevant since you're being lame and not showing up at the fall meet.

I'd love to show, but our boat has been in drydock for the past 2.5 months and next weekend is the weekend we float it and take it home :-/.

I'll be around Chi Town sometime later in October for Sean to swap out mah clutch. Drinking of Rumchata, Jegermeister and Fourloko will commence.

Hrm. It is only 10 mins more to go up to Miller Park, over going to Route 66 in Joliet. And would be more fun knowing other Cobalts will be there...

Haha, Sean just *loves* doing clutch swaps. Ask me how I know. Be sure to bring a lawn chair and sit there asking annoying questions. Not that I've *ever* done that...

Not true. In a turbo car increasing boost is perfectly legal. Judging by the mods in your sig, you are legal to run in DSP.

I run SMF. I was first in there due to steering rack spacers of all things, but now with the custom engine, it puts me in the middle, heh.

You might be able to get away with that locally, but that's not the rule. It clearly states that you can't increase boost in SP. Many moons ago, you could increase boost, but the current rules state that you can't.

The rules do not state that. Perfectly legal.

Right from the 2011 rule book...

Page 102, 15.10

f) Boost regulation systems, either electronic or mechanical, and
electronic fuel cuts referencing boost pressure may be altered
or modified except as prohibited herein. Boost pressure changes
resulting from authorized changes are permitted.

D. Traction and/or stability control systems, as defined in 12.11

It was recently changed, I believe for 2010 or 2011, I am not sure.

Although they do specifically prohibit changing supercharger pullies...

c) No changes are allowed to supercharger drive system pulleys.
Belt tensioners may be added/changed to reduce belt slip.

But changing of blow-off valves is even allowed now....

e) Compressor bypass valves (CBVs) are considered part of the
air intake system and may be added, replaced, or updated/
backdated independently of the other components of a forced
induction system.

I give up. First it was legal, then it wasn't, now it is.

Smaller than stock pulley puts you in SM or SMF. FYI, INR-SCCA.org runs cheap events at Majestic Star Casino (one this weekend same day as the meet, oh well). I will be running in the Chicago Region Dual event Oct 15 & 16th. Last Chicago event there was only one other Delta (T/C) and he was noobier than me (he was in DSP).

This was already posted two posts up. Legal to increase boost on turbocharged vehicles, illegal to change pullies on a supercharged vehicle.

If you've changed a supercharger pulley, you're in SM of SMF.

But rest assured, you're just going out there to have fun because if you aren't on 285 or wider slicks, 10" wide rims, and major suspension changes, you won't be competitive in SM, SMF or DSP.

So go have fun and don't worry too much about the SCCA details..

This ^ im in SMF. Even with 205width r comps, and a great suspension package, its hard to complete against sub 2000 pound boosted civics :-/
