I/C Pipes & DSP

Was going through the rules for DSP and found the section where they talk about intercoolers. No problems there, you can have anything you want so long as it fits behind the bumper. Problem is, I find no mention of the intercooler piping. Not even in any of the other classes! Could this have been over looked? Do other stock turbo car owners not change intercooler piping?

I ask bc it says in like the first section of the rules, "If it's not mentioned, it's not allowed."

It should fall under the air intake being free. Will have to look later if you guys don't.

There is mention of the air intake but then if the pipes were too then by default the intercooler should be also but they have a separate section for the intercooler. This is why I'm confued.

Section 14.10 C talks about the induction system and it sounds kinda like the piping would be included there but it's vague.

Section 15.10 C #3 talks about the intercoolers.

Should I write someone over at the SCCA? Do they respond to these types of inquiries?

14.10 C wouldn't apply since that is for ST categories. I don't see anything specifically for SP, and it wouldn't be allowed by the inherited stock category rules, since the intake is restricted there. You'll have to write in, or better yet, just check on the SCCA autox forums.

you have to send something to the SEB on the SCCAs web site. I know I have done it about the GMS1 tune for STX. Not legal BTW lol

Really? I thought all mods allowed in ST were inherently allowed in SP. I must have misread that. Thanks for the heads up.

Okay, I'll do that. Yeah, I think its funny that from what I understand, its not allowed b/c of the sensors not because of the tune itself!

The tune itself would also dq gms1 if they investigated more but it's much easier to much evaluate it by the fact that it also requires sensor changes.

You will have no problems with intercooler piping.
I ran a RX7 in Asp and changing the intercooler piping in SP is fine.
Carry on.
15.10.c.
3. As utilized only on engines originally equipped with forced induction,
induction charge heat exchangers (known as “intercoolers” or
“charge air coolers (CACs)”) are unrestricted in size and configuration.
Air-to-air CACs and radiators for air-to-liquid CACs must be
cooled only by the atmosphere, except for standard parts. Body
panels, fascias, or structural members may not be cut or altered
to facilitate CAC installation.
No changes to 2012 in reference to the part you mention.
Since the part is unrestricted, the piping going to it will also fall under the same rule.
