Instructor death at CMP :-(

Very very sad news.

http://www.roadraceautox.com/showthread.php?t=28100

Makes me wonder if I should stop instructing and pony up for a DE slot instead.

sad, specially when its an instructor. From reading sounds like the track didnt have proper run off's for these newer higher hp cars. Driver was going fast and even though the porsche had a roll cage he died :/ too much power in the hands of newb drivers :/

My prayers are with his family and friends.

This tragic accident was caused by fluid on the track in a fully built racecar I believe. Not by instructor or student.

Please I am not making light of this loss of life, but lets keep our tracks going. It is still safer than racing on the street.

As an official instructor for a local BMW clup, Solosprint and Autocross I plan to work even harder this year keeping our students safe and out of streetracing.
In April we have a special Advanced Driver Training Clinic for SoloSprint Instructors to try and work on safer instructing techniques.

thank you.

That's scary stuff. That's my home track! go there several times a year and am already heading there for my first NASA event May 1-2nd. Rumor is it was a fully caged 911 at a PCA weekend in turn 8 or 9.
Not where you would expect trouble out there. Turn 3 is the scary one! RIP

Quoted from another site
"A 911 996 had an upper radiator close clamp failure, it was a street car with the stock style spring clamps, and one partially slipped. The driver dumped coolant somewhere around Turn 8, realized he was losing fluids, and immediately drove off line, just like he was supposed to. Unfortunately, there were was a 930 following pretty close behind in the group, it was very cold that morning, and what happened was just unavoidable. Matter of fact, I've driven with the 930 driver before, he's a talented driver, and on this outing he was on his final check ride to move up to the next group. The corner workers did their jobs, the EMTs did their jobs, the 930 was a race prepped car with every piece of safety gear you can imagine. The driver in fact was completely uninjured. As near as we can assume, a tree branch must've penetrated the cockpit. "

If those circumstances are true, it's a tragic bit of bad luck. It sounds like everyone did what they were supposed to, but at the end of the day, racing still has risk... My thoughts go out to the instructor's family and friends.

RIP.

My prayers go to the family as well. I agree with venom09, we as instructors on the track help keep racing off the streets and that kills alot more people.
