I wouldn't dare go more than 8/10ths on the stock Brembo pads for a full 30 minute session. One hot lap? Sure. Race pads for me. One less thing to worry about.

Caveat. My definition of 8/10 may not be your definition of 8/10.

I have a sc and there is big difference in pads from street pads to race pads. With race pads I have no fade and I can use my tires to there fullest.

Okay, so I got a set of OEM rotors and pads sitting in my trunk right now. Saturday I'll be putting those on and flushing my DOT3 with the DOT4 I bought. I'll also be cleaning my car out and getting ready to get my ass up at 4am to head down to south Jersey. I'm psyched, I haven't done an HPDE in 6 years! Thanks for all the advice guys!

Actually have one more question. Would you guys recommend I tape up my fog lights and headlights to prevent them from getting too beat up? I was thinking the fog lights for sure, especially since I've already had one get hit and knocked loose (now repaired).

Why not? It wouldn't hurt anything as long as you kept them off while the tape is on.

I dont take mine ever usually. Not to conerned about it. Best method if you have some fab skills is just make a few brackets, pull your headlights and run covers intheir place. Thats what ill be doing when i swap in retros. I dont have fog lights lol

waste of time... track surface is "usually clean" thus only thing that will be hitting your headlights/fogs is rubber

if your foglights/headlights are going to get hit it will be on the street

Even on a (stock like) racecar, clear tape on the lights is just to hold all the pieces together, not to prevent it from breaking.

I also laugh when I see tape on paint. It just holds the chips on until you pull it off The only good thing about tape on paint is that it keeps it cleaner.

Thanks for all the great advice guys! I went today and had a great time with the Cobalt! Aside from an odd hesitation problem that happened early on in the day, it cleared up and the car ran great. I did the front brakes on Saturday and flushed all the DOT3 out with DOT4. The brakes were fantastic on the track, though later in the day I did start to notice the brakes pulling to the left. I wonder if there may have been some air in the line on the right front. Regardless, I had a great time!
