On a serious note! Please read...
I went to a local race track ( http://www.dunnvilleautodrome.com/) yesterday(May 17) for the first time in a FF car with the Cobalt and did no less than 60 laps. We had 35 cars out and a great variety of cars including E46 M3's and Z3's, 95 Supra Turbo, 03-07 STI's, 08 Mini Cooper Works, another 09 CobaltSS Coupe, 240 SX Nissan's and your regular helping of the Honda/ricers crowd. Some were on R-Comps, BFG KD's, Direzza Starspecs but I was the only one on the new NT05's...
For the record: My cars. 2009 SS/TC Sedan, muffler delete, Tires NT 05 235/35/18 classed in Grand Touring 3 with street tires,
03 Cobra Ported Eaton with all the popular boltons plus various susp ugrades and classed in Super Grand Touring 1 with R - Comp tires for the 2009 Solosprint season.
My experience: 10 years open track, 1 full Solosprint Championship in which I won the Class Championship, Top Novice Championship and came 7th overall in the same year.

UPDATE #1:
On my first day out the Cobalt was easily the fastest car on the track! Mind you it was a normal lapping day and most guys was just there to have some fun, so it is to soon for me to give a fair answer to my own question. After this weekend I'll let you guys know what I really think!!
I am sighned up for Solosprint Event #1 and 2 on the Mosport Driver Development Track (DDT) where I will be running against serious competitors with a lot more experience than me in most cases. Assuming everyone is on premium dot R Comps the 2009 CobaltSS is classed in Grand Touring 1, so on street tires ( 140 plus) we get -10 pips which effectively put me in Grand Touring 3 S were I will run with other GT3 cars on premium R Comps and GT1 cars on street tires for scoring and points. Make sence?
Here is a list of the GT1 cars in our system, click on GT1 where it says 'select a class from the list'

UPDATE #2:
Based on the replies I got on this thread it is pretty clear that most of you do not know what this car is all about. But that is OK, hopefully this thread will inspire more of the 08/09 SS/TC owners to get out and enjoy these cars on a track in a safe and controlled manner, just like I did this past weekend!
All those raving reviews by professional drivers on tracks like the Ring, Laguna Seca and VIR are all true! This car is so easy to drive fast, its unreal. Turns in like crazy with razor sharp accuracy and a little understeer midcorner that can be controlled by rotating the rear end earlier. Then there is that little LNF, it is not the power that impresses but the way it let me use it on the track.
Saturday(May23) during warm-up/lapping I was beating everyone in my class plus cars two classes up. At one point I was running with a BMW in Improved no problem. During the day a few competitors complained about the Cobalt's classing and tirespec saying there is no way a Cobalt can be that fast and still be stock. One of the Solosprint officials came over and asked permission to look at the car and tires. Everything checked out and I was able to run the rest of the weekend.
May 23: Event1, 4 runs and 53 competitors total
1st in class, 11th fastest overall.
May24: Event2, 4 runs and 51 competitors total
1st in class, 10th fastest overall.

1st place in a WOSCA autocross event. May31
http://wosca.com/Event_Results/Sprin...-2-Results.htm
Did my first autocross event in a FF car this past weekend (May31).
Again the little Cobalt performed very well, it took me only 2 or 3 runs to get used to her. What was most impressive for me was the way this car pulls out of the slow corners and the way it handles transitions after breaking! I ran her with tires set at around 36psi and stock camber.
Vid at the bottom of this post.
UPDATE #5:
Solosprint on Shannonville:http://www.shannonville.com/index.php
June 13 Event #3
4th place.
June 14 Event#4
1st place
and 3rd overall out of 79competitors in points in the 2009 Solosprint Championship
http://soloontario.com/events/2009/2009_4.html
Right before my last and final heat for the weekend a CCC Member (Car Clasification Commitee) asked permission to do some datalogging in the Cobalt for "classification purposses"! And after I came off the track I was told to go to the CCC tent, they want to weigh the Cobalt in race trim with driver.
And that gentleman is how FAST our cars are! Everytime something like this happens it usually means that the car is either over or under classed, I quess I should be proud since the Balt is definately not over classed.hehe
My track vids did not come out so good, all I have is the drivers meetings. When you hear Cobalt and BMW M3 in the same sentence after a track day you know you did pretty good. Enjoy it at the end of this post...

Update # 7
I desided to max out my PIPs in GT3 for a shot the laprecord on my favourate track , MOSPORT GP this season. Added the OTTP rear swaybar and more camber in the front. This made a big difference on the track in terms of turn in response rotating the rear. Also easier to trailbrake now.
Event 6 of the 2009 Canadian Solosprint Cahampionship was this past weekend Aug 23 / 2009.
Set a new laprecord for GT3 on Mosport international Raceway!
http://soloontario.com/events/track_...ck_records.xls

Update # 8
Some info from a reliable source inside the CCC regarding the datalogging earlier this year and I quote...
"Seems that the GPS Data from your car at Shannonville in the summer indicated a crank HP of 272 as opposed to the 260 indicated from GM. Apparently there are a number of claims on the internet of stock engines making a lot more HP than GM claims but the consensus was that the only data we had was from your car so this is the only data we can trust..." and "Anyway, I thought I would let your know that the CCC wants to re-evaluate the HP on your car to 272 which I think raises the base performance index by 1.2 but not enough to change classes. If you want to dispute this claim, I suggest you come to the Nov 14 meeting before the banquet."

LOL, I HATE CLIFFHANGERS!
No, I probably don't know how fast my car really can be
. I'm going to PIR this summer to find out though (edit: or at least how fast I can be in it).
And let me add, I enjoy your posts Venom09.

Gah, I knew I shoulda gone instead of giving into my conscience and deciding to stay home and hangout with the g/f!! First her dogsitter had something come up so she couldn't make the drive down with me, then I decided "hey, she's out of town all next weekend I should stick around and spend some time with her". By the sounds of Venom's original post I missed one hell of a showing...damn conscience, time for it to go
.
.
That M3 was the fastest and most aggressive driver on the track. I walked over and we spoke a bit, turns out to be a nice guy and did not mind running me at all. It is a stock internal E46 with tune, headers and catback. For handling he's got coilovers and swaybars front & back. I honestly do not remember what tires he ran on it. Hopefully JiggaChillan can chime in on this.
I had a GPS laptimer( for honest times) and a camara in my car but I am still working on the videos so please be a little more patient
What do you think happened...lol
