SOLO NATS and the Cobalt SS

Hey guys,

Check out scca's site and look for the Pro Solo and Solo 2 results. So far there 3 SS/SCs running and 1 is in trophy territory right now.
2 in D-stock
1 in D-Stock Ladies

All 3 cars are from GMPD.... But at least they are there.

Maybe they're working on some stuff for teh cars to make them better for next season. I need help! eheheheeheh

I have NO clue as to how they designate the trophy requirements.

I think it's based on the top % of registered drivers in that class. D-stock Ladies only had a few cars, so there wasn't as many trophies there for that class, but look at some of the bigger classes, and you see alot more given out.

I could be WAY wrong, but at the last SCCA event here, I'll ask the guys about it since alot of our top guys are out there at nats right now.

Brian, I have connections with the GMPD team. The one guy I talk to from State College runs nationals and does very well every year. He's also great friends with Dave Pearson, one of the SS/SC drivers there.

I have him on a mission to beg for parts, LOL. He's going to be one of the ones helping me set up my car for next year both as far as parts, and possibly GM support and/or sponsorship.

Brian. I'd be down for a co-drive next year. Wish you had a g85. We could share cost of r compounds if you 'd let an ex-national champ drive your car we might be able to take down a few trophies.

At this point Brian, you should say "Sure, you buy the LSD and I'll buy the R-comps!"

Alicia, send me info on these connections. My buddy at the dealership called me and he has an 07 SS coming in with just G85. No sunroof or system. So I may be looking at doing D stock nationally or ahem...STX. I have some questions for them.

My dilema is this...I wonder what power we can get by doing tunes with just bolt ons like Intake header exhaust, no pulley mods??? I heard Tein is doing coilovers and with some niec light 17X8 rims this car may be a good STX machine.

ok... thi is to both Alicia ... and George,,,

We can talk over the winter George about a co-drive, if you don't get your own G85 car as you have mentioned. I'm not sure what class the LSD would throw me in, but I'm also not sure what class I'm planning on running next year.

While I'd LOVE to do stuff to the car, I might not have the funds to do it the way I want, so I might just stay stock next year, and just put a little here and there into it. For the SCCA events... new "everyday wheels" are coming, and I'll be putting R-comps on the stock wheels. @ North Park, I'll be running a separate set of wheels with some stickier Street tires on them.

Alicia, I'd love to get a hold of these guys as well once I get more consistent. Something that I can go back to them and say "look.. this is how I'm doing... I could be better with some help" something like that. I'm not looking for a hand out, but a little tech suport would be great.

We'll talk more about this this weekend.

SPeaking of which... we should caravan up... maybe do a quick Mcydees breakfast.

Brian, adding a G85 would keep you in D stock because it was offered from the factory. For stock you can change the cat back..3 inch would be best, and you can run R compounds and change the shocks (if they ever come out) as well as alignment settings.

Works for me, let me know where you want to meet. You can either come up 30 to my place or meet in Monroeville, either one works for me. I'm only about 25 minutes from Irwin on 30. If that, depending on traffic.

Yes.. but for that to work... you also have to add the Recaro Seats. The people I've talked to so far have all said the same thing... even if it was offered on the car, it has to be the way it would've rolled of the line... so teh LSD comes with the seats ( for 05/06 cars... 07's don't get recaros ), so I would have to add BOTH to remain in Stock.

Yes, I've head Tein is in the works for shocks.... Koni doesn't have any applications at this time. Everywhere else I've checked doesn't carry stuff either.

I was reading that you can change sway bars as well ( just front if I remember correctly ).

I'm not sure a 3" would do that miuch good over a 2 1/2.... I'll have to look into that though.

Seeing as I'm running CLOSE to what some of the front runners are ( in our region ) in D-stock as it is NOW... I think I can do alot better next year since I'll have ALOT more seat time next season.

I guess Monroeville @ the McyDees by the Mall is fine. The one on Northern Pike is gone.

I would like to get there for shortly after 8, so I would say 7 is a good time. If that's too early fer ya, we can just meet up there.

Let me know about the Jack.

3 inch would be better. Not a huge amount but enough. Seats come up all the time o parts for sale. A swap and a little cash would be an easy fix. I also wouldn't want to be the one that protested over "seats". I beleive Howard Duncan would hit them in the head with a football bat.

Yeah, I agree... I would rather have those sets anyway. It's just a bonus I can stay in stock that way.

I would want to make sure that if I run in DS all year with that gear that I would pass Nat's inspection and get to stay in that class for it. I'd hate to get out there, and then they say >... sorry you're in D&*& due to adding this or that....

I've got time to think about it. The big issue is $$. I need to be able to justify anything I spend and that it won't hurt the longevity fo the car in case i have it 6 years and 220K miles.

Hmm, this thread interests me, did anyone see how they did at Nationals, as in final results?

BTW, a 3" exhaust would be overkill, 2.5" or 2.25" would be the way to go for the stock class, unless you are going to put out over 300hp, you don't need a 3". I am thinking about just getting the GMPP Exhaust since it is the cheapest and offers decent gains, and I can run it in the stock class.

The amount of trophies given in a certain class usually depends on the number of competitors in the class.

For example: In my first autocross, there were 11 competitors and I got 4th place. They gave trophies for the top 4 competitors. In another autocross, there were I think 9 compeitiors, so they only gave 3 trophies I believe.

It depends on how many enter a class.

Thats gotta suck for the guys that really deserved to get a trophy that made it into the top three of there class, We(here in Ontario,Canada) don't even give trophies out at our normal events only the events like Pro solos and the Canadian National event.
