Staying ahead of a McLaren

Finally edited this video from March 2013. This was still on my stock turbo and engine. An MP4-12C came up behind me and thought he would pass me on the straight... but had to tuck back in behind me. I kept him behind me for the entire lap which was exciting. I intentionally left the door open for him at 1:36 but he didn't bite
What was not so exciting was that in the first lap of the next session, some of my rod and main bearings gave out from oil starvation. Engine has since been built and I'm now on the ZFR. Hope I get a rematch one of these days!

Later in the day when I was forced to be a spectator, this guy was lapping close to 2 minutes. My best that day was around 2:08...

Enjoy

Was this an open passing event, or did you have to give him a point? Anyone can keep people behind them for a lap...

It was an open lapping day. I'm not exactly pounding my chest and saying look my Cobalt is faster around a track than a McLaren. Could he have passed me if he wanted to? Of course. With the amount of rubber surface and braking power of course he's no match for me in the turns. Like I said, his best lap time (that I witnessed) was about 8 seconds faster than mine.

All that doesn't mean it's not a ton of fun giving a quarter-million-dollar car a run for their money in a Cobalt!

Totally off topic, but I actually got one in the summer of 2013. You're welcome.

The ARK one looks so much better than the MPX in my opinion.

There ya go! Winter pricing starts soon so it'll only be 100 bucks for a full day (10 to 4)

Care to elaborate on the oil starvation issue? Just too many lateral G's? I'll assume you're on slicks.

Nothing to do with not changing the oil, he was near 1.1 iirc spun cyl 1or 4 due to the oil shifting the othe way. He got Powells baffled oil pan to help resolve that issue

Powell recommends adding an extra quart of oil or the baffled pan.

This picture was taken that day. Not even that extreme; I've hit 1.2's before and since.
I did not change the oil that time like i always do but it was MAYBE 3,000 miles old and it was plenty full. Like ecaulk said, just a combination of high G-forces in the turns, and high temps causing the oil to become more liquid and less lubricating if that's a word lol
I do have the baffled oil pan from Powell now, I put an extra half quart of oil in on track days and will be using a slightly higher viscosity oil at the track as well.

Colodude runs NT01s so he can pull 1.2 lateral Gs, if you're not running a dedicated track tire don't worry about it throw half a quart extra in and go have some fun

I run on a full Conti race slick. I'll hit fuel cut from it sloshing in the corners before I have oil stave. Just add in an extra half quart or so (which is what I do), or get the Powell pan.
