Question for my Canadian friends
Question for my Canadian friends
I have found conflicting things online and thought maybe someone on here could help me out with this...
I am a truck driver for a company out of Pennsylvania and I may have to travel into Ontario a few times over the next year or so. I have a dog that will be going with me on the road, but I am not sure if I can bring her with me to Ontario. My fiancee found something online, from 2005, banning Pit Bulls from the province of Ontario. The law stated that a dog that resembles a Pit Bull and is deemed by law enforcement to be a Pit Bull will be seized and euthenized (sp). I was just wondering if someone could tell me if this is still an active law, never was, or what the deal is? Thanks guys for all your help.

yeah, they are pretty serious about it. Funny thing is, from what my fiancee found, even after they banned pits and put tougher restrictions on those that people owned before the law was passed, the number of dog attacks and stuff in Ontario have not dropped. Guess that goes to show how nasty pit bulls really are huh
Here is the law
Information on The Dog Owners' Liability Act and Public Safety Related to Dogs Statute Law Amendment Act, 2005 - Ministry of the Attorney General
here is what is important to you
Importing Pit Bulls
It is against the law to bring pit bulls into Ontario, even for a short visit.
There are no exceptions made for:
Tourists
People moving to Ontario, or
Military personnel being transferred to Ontario postings.
The law does allow certain pit bulls into Ontario for recognized dog shows under limited circumstances (see above: Pit Bull Ban — Exceptions for Dog Shows and Flyball Tournaments).

At some point probably...what the deal is, I drive for a company that delivers product to Lowe's Home Improvement stores. We have three guys that will be running into Canada every week, but there is no one else in the company that can run into Canada, so they told me to go get my passport (on their dime) and then when those guys happen to take vacation I will be covering their routes.
Umm, I think the furthest point I would go to is Sudbury but that would be kind of an in, make my delivery and turn around and head back out...no real hanging around.
I didn't have anything that would get me back across the border....last time I went to Canada all I needed was a birth certificate and I was good. But I just got my passport the other day, so all I need to do is expense it and wait for my reimbursement.
ya to get into canada its pretty easy but to get back into the states now requires a gov't passport. but truckers have something called a quickpass which has all the same clearances as what a passport has.
Thanks loki....I just got my passport and everything in the mail. Now I'm just hoping the guys don't decided to take a vacation until next spring. I really don't feel like dealing with Canadian winters lol
