Plus seeing as you WERE SPEEDING then your 100% at fault for this, and shouldn't be bitching about getting caught for something YOU did wrong. This is what I see a lot of on here, "**** this cop" when in reality he was doing his job and caught you, so now your pissed that you got caught.

P.s. a cop that is "off duty" still has 90% of the rights he has when hes on duty, therefore your ticket is legit. So take it like a man and pay the thing instead of bitch about it, because you were speeding and now your trying to get out of it even though you were doing it.

Also he's not wasting any time in court, officers have assigned court dates, so to him he's still getting paid to sit around. No sweat off his back. Have fun paying your fine

My father in law is a cop, and unless the original poster was driving like a complete ******* idiot and endangering the lives of others on the road, the cop really has no grounds on this. I'd hafta say the OP would of had to of been doing well over the speed limit to get any real attention of an off duty cop.

Why don't you look on a map? Or do you not read those in Dallas, Texas?

In case you didn't know, the CITY of Edmonton, has a Population of about 1,000,000 people.

And in other news, the DALLAS STARS Biggest Playoff rival in the past 10 years has been the Edmonton Oilers. you would think that someone from Dallas would be able to then point out just exactly where that team is from.

You should stay far away... keep Nascar and ignorance out of Canada.

Anyways, Fade it sucks that you got the ticket, I know for sure though that if he mistook you for someone else, it wasn't me, I travelled 137th today...

yea well it was a relatively empty street at the time.. i just wanted to hear a little "whine".. and i let her rev down as soon as i did.. but just something to keep in mind when you want to push your car a little bit on those empty streets, leafy, the off duty cops.. are always watching, and he's ready to stalk the **** out of you

I agree, I seen a car driving down the highway at night with NO lights on whatsoever so i hit my onstar button to notify the polica, because dude was in a black tinted out toyota truck and couldnt see me hanging out my window telling him he was driving comando style!!. Anyways point being cop called my house the next day and said that unless he was endangering lives or driving recklessly he could not so much, however he did state he would send him a letter or give him a call just "to let him know" So take from that what you will...

I'd actually take the ticket, got to the DA's office, and explain to the DA what happen (Cop calling your Mom, then you, on the cell phone, showing up at your house, threatening you, giving you a ticket for something that happen half a day earlier).

A few points worth thinking about:
1) How did he know who you were while off duty.
2) How did he know who your Mom was, getting her number is easy.
3) Guy was jumpy and shaky while writing ticket, threatened you
4) Dude sounds like a crazy stalker.
5) Consider harassment suit.
6) Strongly consider restraining order.

Is the car registered under your Mothers name? That's one way he would be able to call your mom. Just look up the plate and see who owns it.

The #1 thing that will get this thrown out of court will be that he can't prove it was YOU in the car driving. When you sign a speeding ticket, it just says that you received the ticket and not that you are agreeing that you are commiting the offense. I would go talk to the states attourney (or whatever they call it in canada) and explain the situation..... OR contact the officers superviser and explain the situation. This will be an open and shut case.

lol wow, is it true that all americans come down to "SUE! JUST SUE THE ******* PANTS OFF HIM! SUE SUE SUE!" cause i'd say thats about 80% of the responses of Americans in here. either sue or complain. I've defended Americans before about this stereotype, but wow, its either 16 year olds w/ lack of life experience coming up in this thread blabbing their mouths off or its not a stereotype... (but im certain it is as my American friends are nothing like that lol)

a.) you cant file a harrassment suit, cop will just argue hes doing his job and looking out for the public , so good luck saying "durr cop harrassing me by giving me a speeding ticket"

b.) how did he get his moms number? seriously why are peole asking this. this is just a naive question. HE IS A COP. he gets plate #. He calls it into the station. station provides him w/ a list of details. lets assume original poster lives at home... cop calls ph# the plate is registered too, cop asks mom if she was driving the cobalt most likely said no her son was... wow mystery solved, do i get a scooby snack?

c.) get is badge number... oh man i cry almost everytime i hear this from laughing so hard. again same as point "A" , he'll argue he was doing what was right in mind of the public. also, the police isnt customer service, its there to protect people... so everybody needs to sit back from their computer, look in the mirror, realize they're not easy-e or ice cube and drop the whole "**** the police" attitude. it runs rampart on this entire forum... its pretty commical really. the original poster ran into one of those ******* cops, which sadly do exist, but keep in mind cops are humans too, they make mistakes. there are some good ones and some bad ones. Hell i used to have a few friends who were drug dealers. Some of them were the nicest, most professional business men i've met.... then meeting some of their "competition" (other sellers) i wouldnt be caught dead around them because they sported the whole "G-UNIT!!!" attitude and thought they were straight up gangster.

Back on topic to the original poster, fight it. He will argue you were speeding, will probably say he was pacing you, etc.

Curious though, how fast was the road you were on, and how fast did the ticket say you were going over and how much is it going to cost?

Hey Apex, go drown yourself and put you out of our suffering. I said nothing about suing for money, I said harassment suit. Which gets the guy told to stay away from you.

A) He wasn't doing his job, since the way he was acting *IS* harassment since he has no way of proving who was driving or giving an actual clock of speed.

B) I said getting the Mom's number is easy if he knew who she was. However, you think it is as easy as a cop calling up and asking for information without just cause? There are several laws in place to protect citizens privacy from the police. I'm sure he will claim he was investigating a crime, but he has no way to prove who committed it or even if it was committed. Yes, cops do often abuse their access to information, but when they do something wrong, this gets slapped on top of everything else.

C) He as every right to take the cops badge number and file a complaint. Everybody does if they feel they are being treated unfairly. In this case, he was being treated unfairly.

I never said **** the police. I work with a whole lot of Military Police all the time, most are good guys and gals. I also have a strong dislike of "gangsters" and despise their music/lifestyle.

Now why don't you run back over to visit your drug dealing friends.

____________

Never mind, I just noticed that this whole incident took place in Canada, so who knows what kinda crazy laws they have.

cause i havent hung around them for over 5 years now thanks for pretending to know me chief!

And im not disagreeing with you that it sounds like a ticket worthy of fighting, but filling for harassment? not gonna happen buddy. All he has to do is call it in, say hes following a possible DUI and they'll give him the information.

But yes, OP, fight the ticket. Again tho, how fast was the limit, and how fast did he say you were going over?

I'd like to see him find me, he's gonna be taking a nice, long trip to Spruce Grove... where my Registration and Address info are found in the Database.

If you wish, hit up 780tuners.com and post in the "talk to your local law enforcement" section... there is some helpful information to be heard in there.

to answer your questions, it was a 60km/h road.. the ticket says i was doing an "estimated" 90km/h.. and the price is at 177.00$

i think you should take it to court. Cops can't pull you over for speeding if he didn't clock you. And the fact that he took so long to pull you over? You'll get the ticket dropped.
