but even if they did would that change your view any?
(sorry for the next bit Adrian - I'm honestly happy that you got a new car, and that you are enjoying it)
They're still Kia's - which are entry level Korean cars;
Korean cars have a reputaion for being good daily drivers - not for being performance cars...
The closest you get to a 260hp Korean FWD car would be from another Asian company;
the Mazda Speed3;
those cars have a reputation for 'poping' engines on tunes...

FWIW, there is a turbo kit for the Forte and they absolutely rip (but the kit costs $4k), and rumours of a turbo 2.4 model for 2013 which would have 200+ hp I imagine, I haven't been following it that closely. I had my fun with the "performance" cars, and I'll be sticking with this for the next 3+ years.
adrians on again off again love affair with a cobalt or a kia.... something like that..... my 2 cents. a kia forte coudnt hold a cup of water to a balt.... in all catagories.... and honestly there isnt any cars in its class that is better then a balt ss/tc..... that class is all 4 cyl cars... boosted or not.... sorry it is the best all around 4 cyl there is.....
2009 ford focus rs is way better than a cobalt. It's just too bad we dont get them here. ******* Europe gets all the nice cars. I also prefer the gti over our cars. Interior is soooo much nicer and they are faster than us supercharged Balts
Adrian what did u do to lose your license.

Ya but look at Hyundai. They were also considered entry level a few years back but have since lost that reputation. They now have a rwd sports coupe a 70g luxury boat and nice genesis 4 door. They have the new economy velostar out and some decent midsize SUV's.
Kia needs to follow suit and get out of that shitty niche market and become a major player. And they could have started with a nice fast forte. Then as those owners grow older and need nice 4 doors and small SUVs they then start introducing higher end 4 doors and SUV's and grow their market share.

Why else would the 'World Class' engine that Hyundai, Mitsubishi, and Chrysler designed be in any Kia's?
(btw don't take wikipedia as gospel, becasue any moron can edit it - take anything you read there with a grain of salt.)
With Hyundai trying to claw it's way out of the uber-econo class, it needed something to fill that void... enter Kia.
that is, assuming nothing is modified - at that point they will take the same stance as GM did with your Cobalts.
So then, is that evidence that there's somethign wrong with Lethbridge's drinking water??
Just kidding.
Actually that probably is in part becasue the Forte is still perceived as a newcommer to the scene ~ where as by the time you got into the CSS, it was already gaining a rep of being a sporty car... and there's definite stereotypes with any sporty class car...
He burns himself.
Honestly, if you want trouble free ownership - stick to leaving it mechanically 100% stock.

Hyundai Theta engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The GTi engine is rated at 200hp.
The closest race I ever had in my GA was a GTI 2.0T (then newly restyled, and badged in canada as a GTI-Rabbit);
I pulled a 15.4 to the Rabbit's 15.6... but I think the VW owner took the loss as an insult, becasue it left immediately after that race.

The interior is nice - but I don't know about "soo much nicer"... I mean aside from my e-brake handle or radio controls, all I touch are soft surfaces...
But the cost of a GTI is sometimes glossed over;
In order to have the sunroof in the current GTI, you need to keep the 'plaid' seats... yuck. (sunroof is even more money than it was for the Cobalt - $1,400)
In order to get rid of the plaid seats, you need to buy the option package with keyless entry which is $2,900
the 18" rims are a part of a $1,120 option package as well...
With the base GTI starting at $29,375, the non plaid interior and 18" rim packages added in, plus freight/destination and fees/taxes, that puts the GTI "3door" at $39,400CND.
That's a little bit of a financial step up from the Cobalt.
Considering that price jump, it had better have softer leather surfaces ect...
And IMHO, you should absolutely MURDER stock GTI's in you Cobalt.
Please bring your car to my place, I'll find you a late model Focus, and relinquishing your Cobalt to someone more appreciative of it - I'm inclined to give it to Mark.
I'll always love Cobalts more than I'll ever love this Kia. Now that that's out of the way.
Umm.. why are you comparing my base model Forte to an LNF. My car competes with a base Cobalt, and the Forte has standard cruise, heated seats, 6MT, Bluetooth, 4 disc brakes, black interior, etc. What does an optionless Cobalt have? Damn near nothing.
That's like saying that because a Civic Si is better than a Cobalt LS, the Civic is a better car. At no point did I say my car is better than an SS, especially since it costs $10k less.... just that it better suits my needs.

well considering you just got he Kia - that sucks.
nope, I implied nothing of the sort;
but your Forte is more like a comparative to a Cobalt 'Sport' ~ even if you only have the 150hp engine ~ equipment-wise ect, that's it's spot;
The forte is like an entry level Sport Compact ~ or at least that's what I've understood...
I mean all their adds I've seen try to push it being sporty.
ok i dont think a i 5 is the same classification as i4.... wise man told me there is no subsitution for cubic inchs.... i guess same can be said for boosted cars to n/a cars.... what i am saying is you take fords, hondas, dodge, kia, hyandia, and anyone elses, top 4 cyl car vs the best 4cyl car gm has put out(ss/tc) pound for pound dollar for dollar the turbalt will win every day of the week..... further more anyone who thinks the interior of the ss balt is not the best then maybe you need your head examined... have you sat in a g37 lately? or any other lux sport? kinda reminds me of the interior of balt actually.... further more has anyone one of you ***** ever tried to rip apart the interior of a evo? guess what they come apart exactly the same as a balt, but yet according to the experts in this site the evo is so much better..... hahahahahah dumb asses wouldnt know coz they are not real car guys..... bottom line gm has given you a very respectable car to enjoy and some idiots on this site go and say **** that has no bearing nor real evidence of being true.... in short look at your cars and tell me....
1... it has great power....
2... it has a awsome interior
3... the exterior is actually eye pleasing
4... the factory stereo is very acceptable
5... 18 inch wheels(i dont need to say anything else about that)
6... factory lowered suspension( no need to say anything about that either)
7... lsd (what? you dont say? it has what?
8... brembos does any other 4cyl have brembos stock?
9... heated seats
10... maybe one of the best handling cars on the market, if not the best front drive car in handling...
i think alot of the people on this site has forgoten why you bought a balt in the first place... i know one thing i wish i had mine back.... maybe you need to have your cars tookin away from you to relize what kind of gem you have in your driveway.... i know what i had.... DO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
will you have lost your gm card the second you even accept ford as a car company.... 4 words for you.... ******* Old Rebuilt Dodge!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark - you're too funny!
realistically, everything is a trade off;
Sure the Cobalt's interior could have had some nicer materials, but then it would be like the GTI and cost an additional $10k
IMHO GM would have been better off doing a refresh in the Delta (possibly including interior) rather than planning to phase it out after a paltry five model years.
most of the complaints against the Cobalt are complaints that stack it against cars in a different price class all together.
I actually recently received my copy of the Car and Driver 2008 'Lightning Lap';
The Cobalt SS was not only the cheapest vehicle in the 'LL1' (under $30k) class, but it was also the cheapest 'as tested'...
Out of 22 competitors (most of which were in the 'LL2' or $30-$60k price range), the Cobalt came out 9th overall - bettering the following:
But Mark - I still think heated seats are for old foggies
Oh yeah - I had some zippy two seater Bimmer try to mess with me the other day...
BAH-HA-HA...
I wonder how pissed he was that he couldn't get infront of a compact Chevrolet

whatever the price you pay for having tc.... one reason why i prefer sc.... btw i classify tc and sc as the same.... gm top 4 cyl....
cheaper materials??????????? hahahahahahah man the **** they use in fords and vw's should be thrown in the garbage.... thats the truth.... the materials used in our cars is almost exactly the same as any other high end car such as g37 and mercedes.... except 2 pieces.... the hand brake and the side piece on the seat that cracks with lard asses like me sitting in them....
the real truth is this is got to be the worst arguement in this forum and thread i have ever seen besides the all mighty arguement of snow tires vs all season..... look if any of you guys get the urge to dump your balt off to get a kia.... contact me first.... i will take that so called pos off your hands and call it my own.... at least it would have a owner who respects a mans car...

You loved your Sunfire ~ even if it only came with a 120hp engine...
You'ld probably have enough fun in my brothers Cavalier... or my GA ~ even if both aren't nearly new enough, with half the bells & whistles that your Cobalt had...
There are alot of four banger cars out there that can be fun enough for DD'ing...
you know what... come to think of it...

wow i missed alot. sucks doing homework ahaha
that is a very very very clean engine bay.
i dont get why everyone complains about the interiors on our cars. i like them (apart from my rock hard seats) there isnt a million different buttons like the newer cars, and its very simple. i have one complaint and thats the stupid seatbelt holder thingy majigy that holds the seatbelt out. it gets in the way of getting in the back
other than that (and the rock hard seats) its a solid car and im very lucky to even own one at my age
