Calgary - random talk thread
I'm exact opposite /\
I do get freezing cold Ice+Frost and I would prefer snow easier to drive on.
& At least if you have snow you have something to look forward to.
I like your term "Dandruff-ing" hahaha.
I think I might pick up one of the fancy gopro hero hd2's today. I already have the mounts on my car from the "HD" that I returned but didn't return the 3M mounts lol.

WAIT A SECOND!? ~ how long have you had your car?
I haven't even had my car for two years! (purchased Feb 19, 2010 ~ roughly half way through the 2010 model year)
For some reason I thought you bought later than me...

Winter tires came over from my old G6 GTP. I purchased the Cobalt in October 2010 and had the tires swapped from the GTP rims to the SS rims.
My cobalt was the last brand new 2010 listed (or tc for that matter) and it wasn't even in GMs official listings.
My car hit 17,500KM today.. 4,500KM of that is from Calgary trips lol and 2,000KM of that is from work trips.
Oh and seriously? Onstars trying to tell me I need my 2nd oil change? I just got my last one at 12,000KM
Anybody know what onstar bases tire pressures on? (Obviously stock tire size but where does it get its numbers? from gm?) I have 245/40/18s on there as my winters right now and it's telling me they're low yet the car seems fine with it.
Apparently Sirius and XM are done having separate website finally? They call it SiriusXM now lol.
http://www.siriusxm.com/
Never mind, apparently this is only for US, they still have separate sites for Canada.

Tire Pressure: Low (Add Air)
One or more tires are low and need air. Inflate them to the recommended tire pressure listed below as soon as possible.
Properly inflated tires can improve your fuel economy, vehicle performance, and tire life.
Left Front:
Low, 192 kPa Right Front:
Low, 196 kPa
Left Rear:
Low, 188 kPa Right Rear:
Low, 188 kPa

I generally do short oil changes - and I will only come near what you're seeing when I know all my miles, err, km's are from highway driving...
The 'oil life' is calculated by the ECM based on mileage and driving style/type;
the harder you drive your car, the shorter the duration between changes...
your tire pressure monitors observe actual pressure, and the ECM records this;
when you get your monthly email, that is a glimpse into the exact moment your car was communicating with the satellite;
use your RPD to show all four tire's pressure;
you should be at 220kpa/32psi (iirc) ~ when air temperature drops, air pressure essentially drops - so you will see tire pressure drop from it getting cold.
recommended tire pressure is based on the tire size, and vehicle weight;
even though you're running a 245, I'd still stick with the recommended 32psi

when the channels changed this past year, it was the final step in the two companies being 100% merged.
my subscription is actually for XM-USA ~ which removes some of the Canadian content (iirc) - but sirius & XM "USA" offer lifetime subscriptions - which I bought last year... at a fraction of the current going rate of a lifetime.
To get onboard with a USA subscription you have to havea USA mailing address... of which I have a couple.
XM Canada actually offers a lifetime subscription now, I got the notice from the dealer I bought the car at.
About 6,500KM of that is highway driving/very long distance driving where I was seeing like 750Km to a tank of gas, but I do drive my car hard so..

if you hadn't guessed it, I've broken my imposed rule today in light of it being slow, and a couple narc/co-workers not being in today...

(you siad you were probably going to have to finance anyway right?

lol
actually I was surprised;
it looks like you can get cheaper payment options on Cobalts in Edmonton ~ most of those adds show $99 for Calgary listings ~ but that one showed $55, and others show $68...

Sirius and xm are not 1 company in Canada yet. Crtc won't let them merge for some reason or another iirc.
Struttin y do u have such wide tires u r supposed to go narrower for winter tires and isn't the g6gtp wheel only a 7 inch? That's mega wide for a 7 inch wheel.

the companies for all intensive purposes are merged;
the companies head offices are stateside;
the two platforms have all the common stations merged and are on the same station number...
but hey, that's just my opinion.
Although I am not certain on how this logic came to be, or how applicable it might be when put into persoective of a modern aggressive studless winter tire ~ I too am inclined to go a smidge wider than stock;
I have a set of 235/40/18's that I now only need a good reason to swap.
@ Jordan;
I came across some 17" steel wheels this afternoon on Kijiji ~ they were almost four hours away, but the set was $100, and would save you from swapping tires again in spring... you interested?
Last pair of Nokian Hakapellitas RSis available here. They were like top winter tire made.
Wider means more tread to grip if you think about it.
Plus the G6 was 225/50 R18 which was really hard to find.

R u a 5 bolt? I tried buying rims from there back in the day and they didn't carry anything in our sizes. But I guess the 5X110 has been out a while now and everyone and their dog owns a cobalt these days so it should be fairly popular lol
