Hey There Folks,

So I just swung past my local dealership on a lark as I've been having an intermittent CEL, and they wanted to charge me $25 to check the code and tell me what it was. Thing of it is, the light went away. So, I have two questions...

1. Does the cars computer have a memory to keep say the last 25 codes? Can I get a code that caused a CEL that is no longer there?

2. If yes, anyone in Calgary with a cheaper alternative to paying $25 every time I want to check the CEL code? From what I've been reading, the car can throw out codes for just about anything, that makes spending $25 every time i get a light semi-ridiculous.

go stop by any autozone, or parts store, they will read it for free

 

will they be able to check codes that are no longer causing the CEL to turn on? Its off now, but you can bet that for a few minutes out of the week, it will be on.

 

you might just be misfiring, have u checked your sparkplugs in a while?

 

no, haven't checked spark plugs, what am i looking for, Gap and carbon build up?

 

mainly carbon buildup. gap isnt too big of a problem if this has just started.

 

thats odd that the dealer wanted to charge you to scan it. i know ours doesn't as far as i'm aware and shaganappi chev doesn't again as far as i'm aware.

 

this was small town alberta, anything in the south of Calgary that you know of?

 

the dealer i'm at now. shaganappi pontiac. its a little north of heritage on macleod right next to petro canada.
