Thumbs up Dejon SRI

Dave, I have a 2008 SSTC that I bought new 3 and a half years ago. A few months after buying it I bought your SRI. I used it for a while and loved it, but then the car ran into problems. It wouldnt boost, it bucked violently, and idle was erratic. I took the intake off and went back to stock figuring it was because I wasnt tuned for it, and all the problems resolved.

Next, I installed GMS1 tune. After installing that I figured I'd try the intake again just because it was sitting around and I figured it was worth a shot. Same thing, worked fine for a little while but the same problems came back. I took it off and everything was fine.

Now, I just got Trifecta tuned recently, tuning for the intake as well. So, I put it back on now that Im officially tuned for it. I even got rid of the crappy 2 piece coupling you sent me, and got a nice silicone reducer coupling and 2 tbolt clamps for added assurance (seeing with the old couplings the intake was tough to keep on sometimes.)

Well, everything was fine for about 3 days, then last night while cruising home the same problems came back. I was cruising on the highway @ about 65-70mph in 5th and all the sudden the car bucked and wouldnt boost. The rest of the ride home it would sporadically buck violently, sputter, and continued to not boost. When I got home I scanned the computer and found a pending P0101 for the MAF circuit.

What Im wondering is if you have any recommendations or ideas as to why this intake is completely useless? I feel like I've wasted almost $200 for something that is doing more damage to my car than anything else.

Do you have any insight? I'd appreciate it.

I also own a Dejon intake and its nothing but problems.

however, understand that you had this intake for what 3 years? it was really the only intake on the market at the time.

3 year old tech, cheap price at the time...you get what you pay for.

my bro is having the same problem with his SS/TC Sedan, he is Trifecta Tuned for the intake and he keeps getting limited boost problems only boosting 12-15psi....reset the fuel trims it runs fine, then after a while BAM back to low boost. That intake is a POS. I recommend the K&N or Treadstone intake, i have the K&N and love it

try a different maf sensor. i know people who have never had an issue with his instake but a few that had. also have someone reputable with hpt take a look at your logs.

ANY intake except stock really messes with the fuel trims and what not. i think vince needs to play with your tune more aswell.

The refusal to boost happens to me with my K&N SRI but thats mainly because I am running a stock tune. It also only happens when its bitter cold out (<20 degrees F). It kind of annoys me cause I have to shut my car off and turn it back on for it to go back to normal. But its not the stock box, so meh?

How about putting in a honeycomb in the intake tube to straighten the air flow before the MAF sensor? Most cars have these from the factory anyways. I was looking online and Treadstone sells them for like $25 and says they can be epoxyed in.

Any thoughts?

Im talking about just getting the honeycomb they have in their intakes. They sell them separately for $25 and you can put them in any intake to help straighten out the air flow to the MAF sensor.

No I know... I just didnt want anyone to think it was his fault. Basically just wanted to make it clear that the tune has yet to be touched.

It may help to rotate your filter:

Sorry about the problems. I was not aware that you were still having problems even with Vince's tune. I do have a phone (937-561-8661) that gets you much faster response than this thread. I don't have a customer car close to try potential solutions on. My experience with other cars is that the factory MAS tables fit the factory intake and air box specifically and that hi-flow filters allow too much air in, lower velocities and different air flow patterns, I have had a lot of success with inserts to increase the air speed, coming closer to stock. Problem is that does not get you more air flow which is part reason for the purchase. A tune that works gets you the most desired result.

If you want to try an insert, call and I'll make one for free.

I appreciate the response. Im going to see what Vince can do with the tune, maybe it just needs some fine tuning and then itll be fine. If not than maybe Ill take you up on the insert offer.

I didnt mean to come off like a dick, it was just late and I was being pissy lol. Dont get me wrong I love the intake, it sounds great, I just want to be able to use it without issues.
