LSJ/LNF Pistons are here at Dezod

Wiseco, one of the leading forged piston internal manufacturer around has these now in stock!

Wiseco leads the performance aftermarket by producing the highest quality forged pistons for domestic automobiles, sport compact and racing applications right here in the USA. Wiseco is unique because we forge all of our own pistons in house, and produce all of our own forge tooling right here in the USA. This allows us to control all aspects of our manufacturing process from raw bar to skirt coating finished parts.

In addition, in-house dyno testing gives Wiseco the ability to develop state-of-the-art technology such as new shapes, coatings, and components, and lead the industry through rigorous R&D. Linking all segments of Wiseco’s organization through design, testing, manufacturing, and distribution allows us to fulfill market needs with minimum lead-times.

Extreme racing conditions demand the strength and toughness that only forged pistons can offer. Compared to cast pistons, forgings are tougher and more durable, and will stand up to the abuse that high performance motorsport applications require. Most castings are brittle, have no grain structure and tend to fail catastrophically when the material yield strength is exceeded. Forgings have condensed grain that is aligned to the features of the part, which produces higher mechanical properties, and resistance to impact and fatigue. Each forging is designed to optimize the strength-to-weight ratio, and maximize performance.

Highly boosted, direct injection engines, such as GM’s LNF 2.0 require strict adherence
to the original dome and bowl design to maintain proper combustion characteristics.
Wiseco’s new K635 series piston is the only forged piston utilizing special form tooling for the correctly shaped dome and bowl design. Coupled with Wiseco’s brush dome deburring, Nitrde steel XX rings, skirt coatings, and extra stout 5mm wall
thickness pins (offset like the OE for noise reduction), this is the only forged piston with the technology needed to properly
compliment D.I.

Features Benefits
• Dedicated forging.................................• Light weight, superior strength
• Generous valve beliefs..........................• Allows more options for cams and valve choices
• Pressure Seal Groove............................• Maximum ring seal
• Dedicated rings.....................................• Maximum compression and oil control
• Brush de-burring..................................• Domes and valve beliefs have sharp edges removed to help prevent detonation
• Experience........................................ ....• 67 years as the industry leader in Forged piston technology
• Performance....................................... ..• Pistons have wear and friction reducing skirt coating.

All Wiseco Sport Compact kits come with 1mm x 1.2mm x 2.8mm XX ring sets. These rings have a stainless steel gas nitride top ring, cast iron Napier hook second ring, and flex-vent oil ring with gas nitride scraper rails.
The piston pins and corresponding clips are also included. All pistons have ArmorGlide™ skirt coating for improved wear and friction reduction.

Includes pin, locks, and rings.

Choice of bore: 86, 86.5 & 88. Compression ratio of 9.2:1

You prolly don't know the answer but I am going to ask anyway. Why not a higher compression ratio than the 9.2:1 CR? As far as the LSJ/LNF is concerned.

the website only has option for lsj/lnf pistons.. not an option for just lsj or just lnf.. they are obviously not interchangable...

Probably because the LNF engine, you can not just raise the compression ratio on this app because it can alter the flame front simply. So with that being said, compression ratio and dome design play a huge role in the exact science of combustion on this particular type of engine.

The LSJ on the other hand, is a different story

The pistons are near identical in composition. What GM did was simply change the formula of how the rest of the combustion cycle occurs.

LNF = direct injection (08+ Turbo Balt)

LSJ = standard fuel injection (05-07 S/C Balt)

yes but the top of the pistons are entirely different. The lnf has cut outs to mix the a/f more... not sure if that pic above is the lnf/lsj piston though... do you have pics of these? I have no idea if they are the same size. weisco's application is messed up, they say its for 2.0 lnf 2005+ but then have the redline and saab 9-3 listed. the lnf was until 2008 in the hhr and cobalt and I think 2007 in the solstice/sky...this makes me question that they fit...are there tests done?

kind of confused. how would we go about selecting LSJ standard bore pistons. the LSJ and LNF are in the same category, yet completely different design

what is the stock bore on the SS cobalts? i want to run 25psi boost so lowering the compression w/ these pistons would be nice.

The S/C or turbo edition?

LNF = 9.2:1

LSJ = 9.5:1

Higher Compression vs Higher Boost?

Summary: Boost > CR

http://www.modularfords.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=51059

Don't worry about going with stock compression. You'll probably make more power keeping stock compression and upping boost than having to limit boost due to upping compression.

Ok. Sorry this took so long to get the info, but getting a hold of these Wiseco Engineers is no feat.....Here is his response on this piston:

The valvepockets, bore, height, etc. are the same between the two. The lnf piston will knock the compression down in a lsj because it lacks about 4cc worth of volume, but it does interchange otherwise. The dome is obviously goofy as well. We don’t expect them to be used in a lsj, but in a pinch….a guy could.

I would recommend custom for the LSJ, which we can do for you no problem
