Another 12 Second SS/T
Another 12 Second SS/T
We took a couple cars to the track tonight to get some runs in. The weather was pleasant, but the track was packed and the traction wasn't very good. After waiting in line for over an hour, I made my first run in the '08 turbo Cobalt. Mods on this car include ZZP ported head, prototype upper charge tube, silicone tube between stock airbox and stock turbo, and exhaust dump after the turbo. We are running our mail order tune and full factory boost control. This combo dyno'd about 15-20 WHP and 50 ft lbs less than we were able to achieve with an external boost controller. Dyno numbers this afternoon were 318whp, backed up with 319whp.
For the first pass, I spun pretty bad and ran 13.001 at 113+. Ryan ran the ZZP 2.4 turbo Cobalt SS to a 12.29 at 117+ with a poor launch.
For the next pass, I ran the turbo Cobalt again. Brandon(ZZP mechanic) lined up with me in the 2.4 SS. This was the first time he ever drove this car. I put down a 12.958 at 113.49 with a 2.265 sixty foot to his 12.933 at 116.82 with a 2.310 sixty foot.
Next, Ryan jumped in the LNF and ran a mid 13 vs. Brandon's 12.49. That was Ryans first track pass in a manual trans Cobalt.
At this point the track was about to close and the staging lanes were empty, so we hotlapped a couple more passes. Ryan ran the LNF again to a 12.916 at 113.75 with a 2.158 sixty foot. I was in the other lane running the 2.4 SS to a 12.431 at 117.13 with a 2.183 sixty foot.
We hotlapped another time and Ryan backed up his 12.91 with a 12.92 at 113.75 again. I ran a mid 12 in the 2.4 SS in the other lane.
Here's a couple timeslips with two of the three 12 second passes in the LNF:

We tried to run again, but the lanes were closed.
Our next step with this car is to build a new intercooler and turn the boost up a little more. I think better tires will be coming fairly soon. Our sixty foots are not too good with this car. I also need to practice running this car. I'm pretty crappy for the most part.

How did you keep it running with exhaust dump

I also do not understand how people are getting over 300whp when I've got every bolt-on and my tune is maxed out on the MAP, my air\ fuel is maxed and we cant get past 287 whp\321 wtq.... Heck even clamps will only get me 295 whp at 28 psi and these clamps dont work at regulating pressure at all... they let the car over boost way to high...30psi........ so I took them off.....

I wanted to do an exhaust cut-out Dp also, but my tuner said it'd make no difference in terms of pwr and I'd have to re-tune the car everytime I open the cut out and close it....

It was real easy- just time consuming with all of the brackets and heat shields on the factory parts. We are running the stock turbo now, though.

or you need to do a compression test.
