Here's some food for thought.
Today's cars are getting heavier b/c they are being made larger and safer. Airbags... re-enforced doors... crumple zones... safety steel... triple laminated glass... etc.
However... noone has stopped to think what happens when two heavier cars hit eachother. The days of the minor "fender bender" are over b/c the cars get so much momentum behind them that they cause major damage even at low speeds. How is this safer?
Two 1500lb cars hitting eachother is gonna do a lot less damage than two 3000lb cars hitting eachother.

thats not food for thought, cars are not getting heavier. You really think cars that had bodys made entirely of steel and a large displacement V8 was light? Car weight has stayed very similar throughout the years. And even at that, its a Malibu, its supposed to be heavy its a luxurish car.
and when your talking about weight/damage/and safety your all over the place. Its safer today to have two 3,000 lb cars run into eachother as apposed to two 3,000lb cars from say 1960 to run into eachother. I think you fail to understand that the point of todays cars is not to save the car, but save the occupants. Trying to save the car was like mid 1900s thinking.

Haters, Read and weep...
Mods:
Weight Reduc (Rear seat, mats, spare tire, tools)
Custom CAI
Custom Catback Exhaust with Flowmaster Muffler, larger tubing, and Magnaflow Cat
Ported (barely) and Polished TB
Yokohama All Season Tires, 17" Stock Rims
And Tuned
Here are a few more pics from my myspace:
Every Equinox forum I found, I had the quickest one there, it may be the quickest Equinox yet, who knows.
The Vue sucks *****. Engine is a little bigger but way heavier, plus they put even smaller exhaust tubing, I think they shrunk it about .25" to help control emissions I guess.
Another Pic, the whole ride:
Engine could have held a 75 shot without a problem, would have knocked me into the low 13's but I decided just to trade it in for a Cobalt, lower my payments (both insurance and GMAC) and work on this guy, my 2.2
Planning for 13's with this guy within the next two years. I still don't have 2,000 miles on it.

No---the Vue is lighter. It's built on the short wheelbase Theta platform. You might know that if you had a better knowledge of these paticular SUVs.
Still don't believe it. Your 3400 would have to have enough mods to make more then the 248hp hp the Vue is making. Thats 63 more hp! I don't see it.
Using logic it makes no sense. I say broken timing lights!

It wasnt a practical everyday racer, but it wasn't bad. 210ft/lb's of torque stock made it get up and go. Even broke traction shifting into 2nd.

"miniscule"? The rear seat weighs around 300lbs, it had a full size donut with tools. I took out around 500lbs. The reat seat has this whole huge metal sliding seat feature to increase or decrease cargo room, the thing weighed a ton.

I've driven several stock ones, none were close to being able to chirp tires. No way another 20 hp and taking weight out of the rear let it do that.

edit:
Oops...Forgot to post the Nitrous LOL. I ran a 50 shot in that guy. wow i feel dumb. I guess i didnt make it clear enough at the bottom there. I ran a 50 shot for about a year without a problem, raced about once every 2 weeks for a few passes. No issues, AFR readings were good the whole time, I could have upgraded to 75 but at the time everyone told me to run a 50

wasnt a donut..was a full tire and rim. i always kept a spare, good thing too because when i traded it in one of the rims was in real bad condition from brake dust corrosion. i bought the rim used with about 10k miles on it but it was in almost perfect condition from a buddy.
i listed the nitrous at the bottom. my bad
