SS 2.4 Auto 1/8th Mile Runs
SS 2.4 Auto 1/8th Mile Runs
So I went out to the local strip with some of the guys (and girls) from Street Visions yesterday. I made 3 runs against one of the member's Pontiac G6 Coupe GTPs... so I lost all 3 times, but it was pretty close. This was my first time at a strip so I hadn't had any practice launching the car or anything. The only prep. I did to the car was to remove the jack and spare, and lower the front tire pressure to 25psi.
So here's some numbers.
Run #1
Cobalt SS 2.4
R/T: 0.738
60ft: 2.295
1/8th Mile E.T. 9.946 @ 72.289 MPH
G6 GTP
R/T: 0.263
60ft: 2.159
1/8th Mile E.T. 9.554 @ 72.681 MPH
Wasn't quite ready for the light on this one, but the car performed well.
Run #2
Cobalt SS 2.4
R/T: 0.672
60ft: 2.367
1/8th Mile E.T. 10.039 @ 72.566 MPH
G6 GTP
R/T: 0.358
60ft: 2.324
1/8th Mile E.T. 9.984 @ 70.911 MPH
Neither of us burned out for that run, I left the tranny in L the whole way and the G6 driver forgot to turn the traction control off, so not a great run for either of us. Just FYI for all you 2.4 Auto drivers... Low tranny setting tops out at 73MPH, so you can run the entire 1/8th mile without moving the shift lever if you wish.
Run #3
Cobalt SS 2.4
R/T: 0.184 (finally got used to it)
60ft: 2.293
1/8th Mile E.T. 9.958 @ 71.940 MPH
G6 GTP
R/T: 0.405
60ft: 2.230
1/8th Mile E.T. 9.670 @ 73.750 MPH
Though not my best time, I'm happiest with this run. I let the tires burn for just a second or so to warm them, got a good R/T and shifted into I (3rd) at 6000 RPMs. With the R/T difference I was neck and neck with the G6 up until the very end where she got a nose on me to cross the line first.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the car. My only mod so far is an Injen intake (I switched it to CAI last week) so I do feel that the 2.4 has a lot of potential. The G6 GTP has plenty of power and torque, and was running completely stock with the spare in the trunk and all.
I feel that with a little more practice launching I can get the car to the low 9.9's maybe 9.8 with my current mods.
There were a lot of older muscle cars at the track, 2 STi's, an Evo, and 3 SRT4's... I wasn't worried about touching them. There were also a few hondas running. One particular early 90's civic sedan with a GSR swap was running in the low 10's... and one of the other guys brought his 2.2 Cavy with an intake and was running mid 10's. So I felt pretty good about how my car did overall. I would say the highlite race of the day was watching a pro-stock Beretta run a 4.9 at 153MPH damn fast!

Check a couple of topics down "2.4ss 15.22 @ 91.84mph"
As far as beetles and "150hp" cars... don't be scared... I ran a faster 1/8th than a RX8...
either you need to learn how to drive better... or something is seriously wrong with your car.
