stock SS/SC, what gear at 1/4 mile?

i have an ss/sc with just the airbox mod and a filter. still on 16" winter rims with shitty eagle rsa tires, i went to the track once and made 3 passes -
60' = 2.31
14.78 @ 96.7 mph
this run i wheel hopped horribly off the line, launching at 2000rpms and not feathering the throttle enough through the 60' i crossed the line in 3rd gear as i danced on the rev limiter.

60' = 2.43
14.82 @ 96 mph.
DESTRUCTIVELY wheel hopped through the 60' triggering my abs and e-brake lights to come on momentarily. launched the same as the first run but with 28psi in the tires instead of 32. not enough pressure apparently. i shifted into 4th at or right before the line.

60' = 2.28
15.8 @ 93 mph
best launch of the night and missed 2nd gear so after crashing violently into the rev limiter and putting it back in gear i barely managed to chase down my buddy with a base ls 5 speed. also shifting to 4th at the end of the run.

ok ok enough bs. my point is, in what gear do you people with stock SS/SC finish the 1/4 mile?

I have seen some where on this forum, 3rd gear. I do not race, do not know first hand. I have read else where 3rd gear.

you should be close to hittin the rev limiter in the end of 3rd gear by the end of the quarter

With the stock 6500 limiter 3rd gear at 100 or slower . All my passes I got @101 or more I had to shortshift 4th just before I crossed the finish line .

thanks. i also think one of the factors throwing me off was the tires i have on those 16" rims are a bit smaller overall diameter than the stock pirellis, thus shortening my gear ratios just a hair. they were half worn 205/55/16 i took off a set of J-body rims before i sold them. before winter i will be investing in the proper size winter meats.

i have since put the stock 18"s on and i will try the 1/4 mile again soon.

At the end the 1/4 mile you have 3 light beams...the first is the E.T., the second and third beams read how long it takes to go between them, hence getting the mph. i have always let 3rd gear run out and hit the limiter @ the e.t. light....experiment.. and,IMO, if you must, shift to 4th before the end.

i leave it in third, plus my drag tires are a little greater diameter than my stockers, so my speedo says about 102 but I am really at 105 or 106.

Well, I JUST ran last night, and had 5 passes.

Best time was a 14.9 @ 94.xx I had a 96 mph speed on another run, but it was @ 15 something

I was just about at the rev limiter in 3rd, and mine is 100% stock... no upgrades at all. Running my everyday Khumo ESCTAs on there as well. I had traction issues as you did, and couldn't do better than a 2.39 60' time. Lots of wheel spin. I do not have the G85, and I think that WOULD make a diff, could be wrong though.

I hit 4th once or twice.

Last time I took my car to the track I was trapping 98.35 mph and was right at 6500 rpm and right (like a millisecond) before I let off the gas the rev-limiter just barly starts to bounce.

But there was another guy there with the stock rev-limiter and he was trapping 99.4 on the rev-limiter at the stripe.
