Track last night - Ran on street tires for a change! 13.7@102 (Redline)
went to the track last night and ran on street tires all evening!
haha! that was a weird experience - so different from the slicks.
best runs for the eve were 13.7 @ 102 and 13.9 @ 102
the rest were 14.1's and a sweet 14.9! lol
I made some interesting observations,
first of all, no apparent bogging occurred during launches last night, at least nothing remotely similar to the level of bog I get with the slicks on. So I found that to be very interesting. must be the grip of the slicks causing bogging.
The street tires gave a sensation that the car felt 'lighter' without the slicks. This manifested itself on the launches and later on in the burnout box.
A few of the launches were quite atrocious. I was not expecting any wheel hop because I've spent a fair bit of money and effort doing a number of things to tame the wheel hop. alas it is still there! quite infuriating! I may not have things adjusted quite right, but I've adjusted and readjusted so many times now I'm kinda sick of it for the time being. So I was ticked off that it still hops on a hard launch. (Interestingly, I had one single launch that literally just spun the wheels smoothly like on glass, which is what the traction bars are supposed to do when setup right - I think.) of course this resulted in a 2.5 60' lol!
Now, I was expecting my 60' times to suffer a bit with street tires, but I was also expecting my trap times to increase, in fact I was expecting my trap times to exceed my best speed on the slicks (103).
the best 60's that I could pull off last night on the street tires were 2.1's which seems to be fairly typical with street tires on this car from what I've seen in the forums. Sadly these 60's matched the best 60's I could get last week on my slicks - although in the past I've managed as low as 1.8's on the slicks.
My best trap times on the street tires last night was 102 - less than the slicks 103. - That confuses me because I was convinced that everyone on the board with higher trap times were all running on street tires (with similar mods).
I would have been happy to see a 104 or a 105.
So this particular performance detail disappointed me - and just serves to keep me thoroughly confused about how things work.
My first runs I bypassed the water box and didn't bother with a burnout.
The last runs I tried some burnouts, mostly for my own personal fun factor.
The interesting thing that I noticed here was that with the street tires on I could sit there in the burnout box as long as i wanted and the car wouldn't budge forward until I let off the Ebrake.
Whereas with the slicks on, the damn car gets dragged out of the burnout box area even with the Ebrake on full! Obviously there is a lot of traction there, but it makes it hard for me to warm up the slicks. Not sure what else to do to deal with this.
The weather was good last night, overcast and cool all evening, and plenty of time between runs to cool everything down with circulation, fans, and ice.
Sidebar: my dumb antic of the evening
so, I'm getting used to returning from a run, popping the hood and trunk, pulling the fuses for the intercooler pump and fans to insert the jumper, etc...
well...once it was dark - like nearly pitch black, I figured yeah why not, I can do this, I can sorta see what I'm doing, I don't need my lantern yet! doh!
dropped a fuse!!! damn! it fell right down deep inside the engine bay, way down below somewhere, no idea where!! aaaacckkk!!
Sooooo, had to jack the car up, lanterns and flashlights all over the place, crawling around in the dirt under the car
bah!
finally found it though!
hmmmmm...wonder if I learned anything from that?
lol
I have in-car video footage of the runs, will upload it eventually....not sure if anyone cares for that stuff tho.

Nice. What size slicks do you run? I would've also thought that your trap went up with street tires. To be more accurate though, you should've made runs with and without slicks on the same night.

haha! yeah..I was soooo tempted to throw em back on after the first two runs - hopping all over the place and hitting the rev limiter like that !! haha, felt like a clown in a sideshow act.
my slicks are 26x9.5x16 (i.e. gargantuan!)
