Warren's 1/4mi Results

Ok imma scan a few in once I get around to it in the morn.

Car had the 18's on w/ KDW's, had roughly 100lbs of school supplies. another 100lbs+ for all my sub box and amp's. Skies were partly cloudy. Temp 46F.

And the best result was!!!!!

A 16.1.

R/T .154
60' 2.551
1/8m 10.488
MPH 69.29
1/4m 16.119
MPH 86.97

Something I desperately need is traction. This 16.1 was achieved on the edge of stock ls wheel hop. on a couple previous runs i took it just a tad too far into the powerband and hopped my a$$ through first gear. results from taking that bit too far pushed me into 16.3-4.

So my question is this.....should I go with the reversed mount's from OTT, or should I say screw it and get my 2.4 mani w/ retune. I figure either would break me into the 15 second barrier.

Sounds like you need some traction mods, but also a driver mod.

With those mods you should already be running mid 15's easily. That 2.5 60' is killing you. Get that down to a 2.2 and you'll be well into the 15's. If it makes you feel any better, I ran a 2.44 16.0 with all bolts on, but untuned. I'm an auto though, with you being a standard there's no reason why you shouldn't have a better 60'.

Good luck.

i say get the mounts first, if you do the intake your still gonna have wheel hop, and thats how things break.

I had the BFG's set to my 35lbs front and rear. lol. i figured i should of at least tried lowering the front pressure.

Were u running on the stock steelies?

On my fastest run, i held it at about 2800rpm and had the tires to that point where they are screaming but not quite losing all traction through about 4500rpm(know what i mean?) and chirped second.

considering it was my first time racing at the track in like 5 years I'm happy. i think i may just use some money i got coming in on the 2.4 mani/tune AND reversed mounts.

I was running my 16" wheels in my pic gallery with bald ass tires.I lowered my pressure to 25psi then did a nice 2nd gear burnout to clean them off.The track i go to uses alot of VHT(traction aid sprayed on track)and if you dont burnout then you have lots of rocks stuck to your tires.

Wheel hop is cause by improper launching techniques. aka dumping the clutch instead of slipping.

those are some good times i had a 04 cavi, with the 2.2 ecotec and with a auto, with a rk sport header and rk sport cai ,and a catback ran a 10.26 at 69.96 mph in the 1/8 mile .

oh another thing youll wanna do is no lift shift(kepp the gas floored and just pop the clutch to shift)If youve never done this youll have to practice so you can get quick at it.Just from NLS i went from 16.18 down to 15.6. Then ported my stock exhaust manifold went catless and now im at 15.40 with stock exhaust manifold(ported)modified downpipe(catless)SS/SC resonator with full catback and a custom intake.NLS FTW

Is this 100% the case though? It seems like it's also relative to the parts of the car. I mean yea I know to slip the clutch in launch situations, slipping the clutch keeps the tires on the edge of loss of traction and keeping traction correct? It just seems to me that the cobalt ls stock is prone to wheel hop in a way that makes it slower than it could be. My kinda logic behind this is that if the wheels are planted and won't hop vertically, you'll be able to slip the clutch quicker(closer towards dumping) than if the vehicle is prone to wheel hop. Which means you could keep the car in much more of it's power band right off the bat. You wouldn't wanna be peeling out, but the point of loss in traction would be moved higher into the power band.

does this make sense or am i off by a lot?

I was wondering what was up with my tires being like coated in pebbles after a few runs LOL. i didn't do the burn off a single time out there, perhaps i should have been.

hell yea FastL61, sounds like you totally just filled me in! you and i were pretty much on the money with each other previous to you NLS'ing. The only NLS I did was the last run of the night, which was my best run also, and even then it was just second into third. I know how to do it, I can do it, it's just this car is my daily and I don't wanna risk any damage. Perhaps I should look into the WOT-box no lift shift option as well and set it for like somewhere between 200-300ms.

Lots of things to do this summer.

New minimum mods for summer list:

Reversed Mounts
2.4 Mani/RE-tune
WOT-Box w/ NLS option only

perhaps with those 3 extra things in the cobalt, of course with extra practice at the track, will see consistent low-mid 15's?

Thanks man! how u like the rksport header? add a nice tone??

I think your right, especially now that I see FastL61 was running the same time till he NLS'ed. As soon as I got home I was lookin at people's 60's and realized i had some time to make up for right there. Once I get the mounts I'll feel more comfortable launching in with some more *****, the wheel hop prone parts were definitely hindering me a bit imo. that and i didn't have the ***** to NLS my daily driver college car besides that one 2nd to 3rd shift on the last run, so maybe once I either build confidence to just say screw it or I buy the WOT-Box we should be seeing better times. hopefully in the mid 15's LOL.

The whole logic behind it makes sense. A typical shift for most is about .5 second(no NLS, but aspirated). I'm sure I'm faster on the shift than average but without being full throttle I'm still into that half second range). With an NLS shift not only are u still full throttle but your slammin the gears probably down to about the .2-.3 second range I'd imagine.

Next Saturday should be a even nicer 55 degrees F night. Humidity should be low too since we finally getting some decent high pressure systems. Sounds like a good night to do it. May even help my 60ft a bit. :-P

dammmn,

well hey NWAE in the next couple months I'll be coming up to Auburn area to see Vince about a new dyno tune for my car with the 2.4 mani installed. Perhaps I'll find some extra money for the lsj downpipe and a gmpp or custom exhaust. Depends how much money I'll come across. all i know is i at least wanna be hitting me low low 15's by end of summer. lol

ouch. You need driver mod I never got mine to a 1/4 track before i sold it but with just an injen CAI, vibrant header & dp, and gmpp cat back i ran consistant 10.1s and some 10.0X runs in the 1/8th. If i didn't use my driver mod it was up around 10.5, get your 60ft down and your time should be alot better

Get rid of the 18s for the track, the bigger the sidewall, the less chance of wheel hop.

The weight reduction would also help your times.

You should be able to pull a better 60ft then that, but dropping the rim size, and using a larger sidewall tire, and of course less tire pressure will really help you out.

a 16.1 out of a LS is pretty remarkable.

Back when my 2.4SS was stock (and a auto), I was runnin 16.1/16.3's.

a 16.1 out of a toyota prius is remarkable. a 16.1 out of an L61 car is less than remarkable by a huge amount, especially with a 2.5 60'. get some 2.3xs or 2.2xs and be deep into the 15s.

Dont be going to the track with 100+ lbs worth of stereo equipment in the car, that's just plain stupidity.

same for the school stuff..... dump these two items and you have mid to high 15's end of story....
