09 TC trany clunk going into 2nd.

Ok so after some forum searching, i havent really gotten a clear answer.

The car has less than 1000 miles on it, but when shifting from 1st to 2nd there is usually a pretty good clunk sound. This doesnt happen in any other gear, and not when i downshift from 3rd to 2nd.

The answers ive seen have been a mixed bag, and none directly related to my problem. Some say the clunk is normal, some say its the mounts, some say add tranny oil (car has like 650 miles on it). Is this a common problem that can be covered under warranty or that just the way it is? Sorry if this is a repost with answer out there, but i tried several different search combinations without any success.

The transmissions on these cars are noisy but I would have to listen to it to tell you if yours is normal or not.

Is the clunk as you're letting the clutch out, or when you're physically switching the gears; every single TC I've come across makes the clunk when engaging the clutch from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd (though far less audible). If it's clunking when you're actually engaging 2nd, that might be something else all together.

just turn your radio up.

GM equiped these cars with a some-what loud radio for a reason.

I can be sitting at a red light in neutral and when I go to put it in 1st gear it makes a “Clunk” sound as well. Half the time it does it and half the time it don’t but with the windows down it’s pretty loud!!!

Hmm i have to think about it because i never really did it slow with intent on isolating the noise. So i would have to say its more or less when past neutral and sliding into gear, and than makes a little more deep clunk as it engages. occasionally it does this going into 3rd, but is much less audible.

I'd be willing to bet if you pay attention it's as the clutch starts to engage and what you're describing is identical to what all TC owners are experiencing. The tranny is loud, if you drive between buildings get on the gas at WOT then release it, you'll hear the tranny almost "whrring" as well as occasionally what sounds to be some "gear play" (for lack of a better term), it's the nature of the best it seems .

I agree that they are just noisy i got almost 5000 miles on mine and i noticed the loud shift noise since day one. I just learned to live with it specially since i havent had any problems with clutch, tranny ect. i dont like how my brakes have also squeaked since day one. seems like after the rotors warm up from stop and go city drivin they start to squeak when coming to a stop. weird and annoying but i guess thats why we got pioneer stereo system lol

You just have to know the perfect point to shift into 2nd and you will hear no sound at all.
