2.0LSJ-What transmission fluid to use?
Hey guys,
well threw in my intense axles, and lost some tranny fluid. Now, i did a search and come up with a few repeating answers.
1) use atf dexron 3,
2) only use GMs special tranny fluid (same as saturns?)
3) some people seem to think its thick like 80w90 gear oil?
Now, i know 3 isn't right. But ATF is what gms been using in all thier getrag trannys and have read some guys are putting that in their LSJ trannys. BUT, whats this special gm tranny fluid? Also, i quickly checked the owners manual (which isn't very helpful) and i could have sworn it said ATF fluid for the transmission.
Can somebody clear this up for me? and if it is some sort of specialy tranny fluid from gm (not synchromesh..stuck that in my 01 cavy..and man, it was tough to shift) whats the part number.
Thanks!
Nate

Unlike most of their manuals where they call for ATF , GM calls for synchromesh(saturn fluid) in the F35 trans . pt # 21018899 . Its a synthetic blend fluid . If you plan on changing the fluid , Ive also heard of a few guys using Redline shockproof gear lube and liking it over the syncromesh .
I just drained and refilled mine with syncromesh ....mine shifts as effortless as when new . I dunno what woulda been up with ur 01 shifting harder , maybe the f23 needs the heavier ATF (??)
Also in the manual , I dunno what year yours is ....my 2005 manual has a supplement on page 1 that lists thecorrect trans fluid recommendations for both transmissions ....while in the normal maint. schedule it wrongly lists ATF for the F35 trans .
