2 Questions..
Hey guys. OK, two questions. The one should be a simple yes/no. The second will be tricky. But give me real information, no bullshit.
1. Is synthetic tranny fluid safe for our automatics? I used B&M synthetic in my Dad's '04 Monte SS with the 4 speed Hydromatic last time and it worked great. Seemed to firm things up a bit and made for a better over-all experience. I want to use the same stuff for my Cobalt. Complete flush and fill. I switched to synthetic oil as well. Want to continue using great products..
2. Honestly. How much and how extensive would an auto to manual be? I know someone will say "blah blah blah too expensive blah blah blah...or...blah blah blah too extensive blah blah blah" But no. How much of an approximate cost and what needs to be done? It'd seem like you'd need the 5 speed tranny, the clutch pedal assembly, and then a tuned ECU for the manual.. Is that basically it? I don't need to know every single bolt, but the basics would be key.. I have a shop within a reasonable driving distance that specializes in GM FWD cars. They have tons of LSJ's, LE5's, etc. I could basically pick and choose what I want/need. I would assume a full LSJ swap would be easier.. But I'd like to stick with the LE5 and s/c it if I'd be doing a full swap with tranny and such.. Hell, I'd really like to turbo it, but s/c is more reasonably priced.. I could score an LSJ at this place for a little over a grand, work out a deal for the tranny/ECU, and get the details as well. I have a great shop by me, several friends who work at dealers, as well as a grandpa and an uncle who have built over 30 muscle cars each in heir time. Their current is a '65 Cobra. Ithink we could successfully s/c and 5 speed a Cobalt..

Any info would be awesome!!!!!
Thanks!!!!

It's not "local".. But it's manageable. Morad Auto Parts. It's in Cleveland. It's where I got my Recaro set from.. They post a ton on eBay.. Give them a try..
Asfor the ECU, would that be a reasonable idea? Just use a tuned 2.4 manual ECU? Then that'll work with the n/a and s/c set-up then? I'd love to boost later on.. But it's not top priority. Hell. Neither is going to manual, but I like to have my options open..
