2nd Gear grinding

2nd Gear grinding

Hey guys,

I have a grinding noise when shifting into second gear. Other than that, the gearbox is fine. I have the GM performance clutch kit to put in it, but I dont want to take it apart twice. It seems that used manual transmissions for these puppies are hard to come by. Is it worth rebuilding it? I know i will need 2nd gear synchro, and probably a few more parts when i pull that shaft out. Has anyone out there done this repair, or have any advice?

have u ever rebuilt a transmission yourself before? that is if your implying u want to do this yourself...........monogorat has a zzp stage 2 trans he is selling that would be cheaper than a new one from GM. better than paying someone to rebuild this trans i think, pretty sure it would cost quite a bit just for a stock transmission.

I haven't, but a friend of mine is a GM tech. He is going to do it for me in his own garage. he told me that if everything goes well, it wont that expensive. I'd just need 2nd gear synchro and a couple of misc parts. But of course there could be a lot more to it. Thanks for the info

oh ok, you got a good friend if he is doing this for free lol. or even cheap. but yea man, no problem. ive been threw a trans already so i know lol. im picking up a zzp stage 2 myself when i get home and then gonna sell this one in the car.

ok, heres another question for you SS experts out there. The SAAB 9-5 manual transmission is supposed to be interchangeable with my 05 SS. Has anyone out there tried it? Do you have to swap out the internals, or can you just pop the whole case in? An SS gearbox used (MU3, no LSD) is $900. A Saab F25/35 used is $400.

check the gearing between the two F35s. think that might be the difference. i couldnt honestly answer that for you though. but hey, in july i will have a HHR SS LSD trans for you when i get home, only about 10k on it if that. ill sell it for 1k lol. and thats the 4.05 diff also, not the 3.82 like the LNF cobalt
