another broken lnf tranny
if you have a problem with 3rd gear, the whole tranny is not messed up. You'll just have to replace that gear. Most likely just the synchros though. It's a common problem. Just make sure to flush the tranny out really well.
I've broken two with the stock turbo, one of them NLS'd less than five times. Never grinded any gears or missed any shifts/NLSs on the second one either. I think it's just how the power comes on, any wheel hop vs traction, and any drivetrain mods (like sticky clutch).
WIth the way these transmissions are designed good luck finding a shop that can do a rebuild of just one gear/synchro. They are few and far between and charge alot for labor! the GM dealers dont even try most of the time cause it's a pain in the ass even with the specific tools required and if it's a warranty approved repair they just replace the entire transmission instead of the hassle of Rebuilding! Good luck! and post up if you do find a good shop that can fix it for cheap!

While we're talking about transmissions, would it be better to get a used F35 with lower miles, or just buy from a vendor (modified/more stout)? I plan to keep the car stock, or maybe just a tune only. All I have is the MD, lol.
if you only plan to keep it stock, then buying a used transmission would be your bet. if you plan on modding and making big power, a 4.05 or 4.45 would be your best bet
Ok update my tranny is done .....got the whole thing cryo treated new 3rd gear new synchros,,, with 4.05 final drive....and over coarse did what zzp does to thiers ....torqued down harder then spec on the bearing preloads.....the only thing now is that my gears sound like their howling a bit....but runs really good....shifts are sharp and smooth... Mongolrat I can use some input!
We used shims as well.....everything went back in like stock trans except evrthing was cryotreated including the shafts bearings crushsleeve etc..... So since their is more load on the bearings and gears. Is it normal?
We have to make the spacers for the endfloat. I did Mongorats tranny and it was cryo'd , and we built it from a boxful of parts for Mongo, and he put it and he says its wonderful. Not sure what to say here.
I can say that piecing together a transmission from a box of parts like Mongorat's cryo'd one is not easy. We are fortunate we do so many, and have assembled trans here that we can pull apart to check things. That said, Mongorat had put everything stripped apart, carefully placed in plastic bags, all marked and everything perfect, but was still missing three small parts that would have made the assembly a disaster if we had missed that.
Good luck
