Auto tranny noise

Hey auto guys,

If a few of you have a sec, do me a favor to set my mind at ease. I had my car on a lift the other day while running and heard some gearlike noise coming from the driver's side of the transmission. I'm assuming it's just the fluid pump running in there but would like to make sure there isn't a problem...

I noticed with the car on the ground, you can hear this noise if you put your ear down by the driver side front wheel. But if you go over to the passenger side, you can't hear it, at least nowhere near as loud. Can anyone verify that their car does the same?

Thanks guys and gals!!!

Could just be the chain drive noise. If you know someone else with a Cobalt listen to theirs.

Does the noise change when the car is in drive Vs when it is in park?
