The best Clutch for the money !
Hi guys,
My clutch has started to slip a lot and considering that I might install some performance upgrades this year, I don't want to buy an OEM replacement clutch. I want to buy a (semi) racing clutch that will be able to transfer/handle the power as I continue to upgrade.
I've noticed that a lot of people recommend the Exedy Stage III Hyper Single clutch which retails for over 1000$.
Is this clutch really the best of both worlds (traffic/track)
Are Spec Stage 3 +, Centerforce DFX Dual Friction Clutch or Clutch Masters FX400 (Stage IV) worthy of consideration
The latter are cheaper and claim to be able to handle over 350 HP/TQ +.
One of the most important aspects for me is the daily traffic driveability as I commute to work everyday and I want a clutch that is at least bearable in traffic and strong/slip-free at the track.
So which one should I consider
Please give your impression/personal experience if you have one of the above mentioned clutches installed.
Thanks for the info guys !

Exedy Hyper single is a good clutch, very highly rated.
If you go with SPEC ONLY get the "+" series
Stage 2+ for a SS/SC with a stage 2 kit, if you have any more power than that get the Stage 3+
Also PM us we can get anyone 10% off a Spec "+" series clutch when you also purchase a Spec Aluminum flywheel... (limited time offer)

I take from your signature that you haven't installed the Spec Stage II yet, so you can't comment on its performance during daily driving and on the track?
Have you heard from someone who actually uses it?

You're one of the few vendors I'll actually consider buying these parts from !

SPEC stage 3+/Spec aluminum flywheel
Exedy Hyper single kit
Honestly IMO both kits feel almost the exact same on the track, as they both hold very well.
The NON "+" series I have also drove with the SS/SC and it just doesnt do justice compared to the other 2 mentioned above.
Ive got 2 buddies that run the same clutch...thats how i know it wont hold up to GM stage 3+nitrous+slicks....they are the reason i bought the clutch...just make sure you either get Spec/Fidanza's lightweight flywheel, or a new OEM one. if you need more input, PM a guy called YELLERCOLT, hes the one that does all the work on me and my buddies Balts. He burnt up 2 stock clutches and a Spec S2+ with slicks on the track...
BTW, Turbo Tech Racing is an awesome vendor...Aaron will hook you up!!!

i have the spec stage 3+ with thier flywheel and really like it. i just took it out and it does have some heat spots on the pressure plate and flywheel. but really not to bad. i like the way it feels! and i would deff. buy again if needed.
cause the stock flywheel is heavy as hell

Exedy Hypersingle FTW! Does everyone realize that the clutch kit includes a lightened chromoly flywheel and billet aluminum pressure plate unlike every other clutch available for the Cobalt? Everyone seems to harp on the price, but for a dynamite combo with all that's included in the kit, Exedy is a steal to me at a $1000.

That's exactly what I've been saying for quite awhile now. After going through the whole Clutchmasters fiasco, messing up a Fidanza flywheel in the process because of those 3 damn clutches, the Exedy kit was a relief! The Exedy Hypersingle's light billet aluminum pressure plate, 6-puck sprung clutch disk, and lightened chromoly flywheel all for a grand is a steal and it's proven to work great not only on the Cobalt cup cars, but also in many people personal rides as well. Hands down the best aftermarket clutch I have driven, and hands down the best quality one I have seen thus far. I am not a vendor, just a really satisfied customer with his Exedy product!

Yes I know you are wondering why I need to know. It is for my second Cobalt SS/SC
I haven't found any vendor yet that offers it for less than Cobalt Performance Parts.
How about a Group buy TTR?
