AC Delco is made in the USA as well. I just opened my box and checked, that's a large part of the reason I started buying Delco filters.

Untrue! GM recomends useing GM filters only, read your manual! I worked for GM and I saw first hand they deny warrenties for useing inferior parts. Now THEY decide whats inferior or not so good luck. Slap a K&N air filter on your car and have a MAF sensor problem and see how far the Magnuson-Moss act gets you.

ALL they have to do is show how the part you installed caused the problems. How hard do you suppose that would be seeing how they do the tear down of your engine without allowing you there to watch over there shoulder.

Why risk it?

Thats interesting, becuase early on, when I owned the car, I bougth AC Delco, and all of them were made in Bulgaria (I think) the same place that the Fram ones were made. If that has changed, then I'm impressed. I don't need that foriegn sh*t in my car.

That's two different things. I'll agree with you that a K&N air filter might void your warranty, even though people on here will say all day long that it won't. Heck it doesn't even look like the GM air filter not to mention the oil mist it can get onto the MAF. And I'll agree with GM for voiding the warranty.

However using an aftermarket Fram, Purolator, Wix etc. oil filter won't void anyone's warranty. If they did, those companies would have gone out of business long ago, along with all those quick-lube places. How many of them use ACDelco oil filters? Fram is the top-selling filter company in the country; they would be nothing if warranties were being voided.

Cobalts are a very specific monster though when it comes to oil fliters, read and learn.

Subject: Information on Internal Engine Noise or Damage After Oil Filter Replacement #07-06-01-016A - (09/17/2007)

Models: 2008 and Prior Passenger Cars and Trucks (Including Saturn and Saab)

2008 and Prior HUMMER H2, H3

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This bulletin is being updated to include additional information on incorrect or improperly installed engine oil filters. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 07-06-01-016 (Section 06 -- Engine/Propulsion System).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Important: Engine damage that is the result of an incorrect or improperly installed engine oil filter is not a warrantable claim. The best way to avoid oil filter quality concerns is to purchase ACDelcoŽ oil filters directly from GMSPO.

Oil filter misapplication may cause abnormal engine noise or internal damage. Always utilize the most recent parts information to ensure the correct part number filter is installed when replacing oil filters. Do not rely on physical dimensions alone. Counterfeit copies of name brand parts have been discovered in some aftermarket parts systems. Always ensure the parts you install are from a trusted source. Improper oil filter installation may result in catastrophic engine damage.

Refer to the appropriate Service Information (SI) installation instructions when replacing any oil filter and pay particular attention to procedures for proper cartridge filter element alignment. If the diagnostics in SI (Engine Mechanical) lead to the oil filter as the cause of the internal engine noise or damage, dealers should submit a field product report. Refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 02-00-89-002F (Information for Dealers on How to Submit a Field Product Report).

This PI was superseded to update models and model years. Please discard PIP3859.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
On rare occasions, a low oil pressure light may be experienced shortly after an oil change due to a damaged oil filter.

Recommendation/Instructions:
If this is encountered, remove the oil filter and inspect the filter nipple that seats in the oil filter housing portion of the engine block. If the oil filter nipple is damaged, mis-positioned, or crushed, replace the oil filter with an OEM oil filter and evaluate the concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed

That's some very interesting information. Honestly I'm sure all the 'name brand' oil filters are more or less the same quality, but I'll keep buying Delco since they're made in the USA and I'd rather support my own country than Bulgaria where they make Fram.

GM cannot void your warranty for using another filter brand. That would put fast lube places out of business if manufactures did that. As long as the replacement part is OEM spec they cannot do a thing.

If I pull a deformed aftermarket oil filter from an oil starved blown engine, you better believe I am not going warranty it. GM has specific information pertaining to under specification aftermarket oil filters destroying engines. No argument, OEM is the safest bet.

I've been using the K&N oil filter and Royal Purple oil, and the filter hasn't given me any problems at all. Although I'm probably going to go back with ac delco though, just because I can buy in bulk from CED. Instead of ordering one every 4-5 months from K&N
