Built Shep Trans Interest Thread

I'm starting a thread to see who all would SERIOUSLY be interested in buying a built/rebuilt Transaxle system from Shepherd Transmission Inc.

PLEASE, read everything in this first post, before posting.

Please post a SERIOUS response to the question asked. I don't wanna know that you are at 5k miles and have had no problems... I DON'T CARE. This is for the people that are getting serious. TVS Builds, GT35R Builds, Super 20G Builds, Misc other Turbo builds... etc.

IF YOU HAVE HAD TRANSMISSIONS BREAK... PLEASE POST PICTURES OF THE BROKEN TRANS AND BROKEN PARTS.

---------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.sheptrans.com/index.php

Shepherd Transmission is THE LEADING transmission rebuilder/builder for DSM's...

...if you thought Cobalt's were the only ones with Transmission Problems... then buy a DSM. DSM Transmission have a lot of the same problems that our lovely F35 Transmissions do.

A little bit about Shepherd Transmission:

John Shepherd has been working on DSM's since the very beginning back in 1989 at Eagle dealerships where he worked for 10 years. He has been racing DSM's for over 10 years and has used his on-track experience to R&D the transmissions that he is building today. As the business grew it was time to make the move to a full-time business. Shepherd Racing moved into a small 900 square foot shop and quickly outgrew it. In 2005 a 4,000 square foot shop was built and is continually expanding. At the same time Shepherd Transmission Inc. was formed to focus just on transmissions.

Shepherd Transmissions Inc. now employs 6 full-time employees to provide you with the best possible service.

Now, these are the prices for the DSM FWD Stg1 Rebuild. Keep in mind, that this kit has been around a while, and that the DSM transmission wasn't built by Satan, like the F35 was... so a rebuild for our transmissions might cost a bit more.

Stage 1 Rebuild
Price: $945.00
Vehicle Cat: DSM FWD

This is our upgraded fwd trans with a double synchro 2nd gear. We highly recommend the addition of an lsd at any power level. We offer the lsd insert and the True lsd frt diff. It should be noted that the lsd insert will NOT prevent diff breakage but will give you some limited slip action.

Included Features:

* Shims for setting preload
* New Nylon Shifter Pad
* New End Nuts
* New Roll Pins
* New Intermediate Gear Bearings
* New Input Shaft Bearings
* New Drive Shaft Seals
* New 1-2-3-4 Synchro Springs
* New 5th Gear Synchro Rings
* New 3-4 Synchro Rings
* New 1-2 Hub/Sleeve kit with Double Synchro Rings
* New Shep Trans Spec 2nd Gear
* New 3-4 Fork
* New 1-2 Fork

Extra Options:

* To make it even more clear. We DO NOT recommend using the stock front differential. Shepherd transmission Inc. will not be held responsible for any damage resulting from not upgrading to an lsd.
Same disclaimer as Stg1... but this is for the DSM Stg2.

Stage 2 Rebuild
Price: $2495.00
Vehicle Cat: DSM FWD

This is our street/strip fwd trans. It has all the good stuff from our stage 1 and it also comes complete with a true Quaife brandlimited slip front differential and the heavy duty 3-4 conversion. We have customers in the 10's with this setup. There will be absolutely no warranty on the fwd transmission if the intermediate shaft is not replaced.

Extra Options:

* FWd intermediate shaft $275
* kaaz lsd instead of Quaife deduct $295

Now don't go getting your hopes up... I'm just trying to gauge interest before I actually contact them. There has been no actual talk of them doing it... and my guess would be that we would hear "No"... as he knows nothing about our Transmission (where-as he has like MANY MANY years of DSM Trans Experience).

This post in NO WAY has anything to do with or has any links or ties to Shepherd Transmission. I'm just a person gauging interest on a personal level.

---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------

For anyone that doesn't know or hasn't ever heard of Shepherd Transmissions, just ask any DSM junkie.

Here's Shep's OWN car, with his Dog Box set up. Go on YouTube and search John Shep... you'll find all the videos you need.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiSptlw-L_U&NR=1

Here's an Old Video about Shep (Old video as in... his car is a lot faster now ).

Here is the "Broken F35 Transmission" thread:

---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------

AND, here are the TWO transmissions that I have gone through.

Original Transmission:

-At 18k miles, the 2nd gear Synchro Blocker Ring failed... a popular failure.

The fins became TOO wide to drop down into the slots... thus not engaging the synchro.

SECOND Transmission:

I had 34,000 miles MYSELF on this used transmission... mileage before I got it is unknown.

We have yet to tear it apart and come to an OFFICIAL conclusion... but it appears that the Diff failed in some way.

Spread the word. We need a lot of interested people to hop on this boat for it to actually set sail!

Paul,

Hello, I cannot say I have ever tried to repair and f35 but with that being said that does not mean we cannot or will not. We would at least need a donor trans that is damaged to even consider if there are upgrades we can do. It would be easy for us to have a dog set made but I would assume there would not be a market for this.

This is a done deal for me! If Shep is willing to build us one, call me in. We already have the LSD, so all I need is a beefier gearset like he has done with the DSM trans! After two broken 3rd gears, I'm definitely down so I can go back to the track!

Here is the remnants of my third gear outside of the tranny on the second one I broke!
