CLUTCH Q's?? SWAP

Ok, So if you have seen me around, I'm doing a Saab 9-3 motor swap. I so happen to be at the point where I have removed my transmission and can see my clutch.

I'm seeing a difference in the Saab clutch compared to the Cobalt's clutch.
Both use the F35.

Cobalt Clutch: Inside I can see 4 big springs. I can see the bolts on the clutch arn't the same age as the clutch itself.
Saab Clutch: No Springs.

1. So is the Cobalt's clutch a upgraded clutch?? How can I tell???

2. How can I tell if my throw-out bearing is bad???

Help me any way possible. I can get pictures if needed.

I would love to see some pictures of the stock cobalt ss clutch. All I could find online was the upgrade kit

Thanks,
Bratboy90

i still have my old stock clutch sitting in the garage. it isn't on the car anymore, but i have the old pp, clutch, tob, and fw in a box. ill snap some pics after work. both my oem clutch and the upgraded clutch have springs.

If you are having problems with getting in gear, if the clutch isn't engaging immediately after release, or if the clutch pedal sticks down, these are all signs of a potentially failing throwout bearing. the tob and slave cyl come as one assembly. i would suggest changing it out while you have things apart. if you are interested, I have an oem lsj tob/slave assembly for sale for $50 shipped. i didnt realize one came with the kit i ordered, so now i have an extra, and need to get rid of it.

I may be wrong and someone correct me if I am, but I believe the springs are there to make the clutch more forgiving (i.e. not be so much like an on/off switch) stock clutches and many aftermarket ones have those springs but some of the heavy duty clutches like stage 4 I've seen don't have those because they are intended for track use

Always replace the TOB when you change a clutch.

Performance clutch of not, if it is slipping, you need to replace it. Get a KY Stage 3 clutch kit.

I'm doing a Saab 9-3 motor swap. I not having clutch issues. Just debating using the clutch on the saabs flywheel as is, or putting my cobalts on. Or buying a GMPP kit. I'm expecting 300whp.

pics of my old stock clutch, fw and pp

I'd personally put the saab clutch in. the springs on my stock clutch were pretty much shot. after the new clutch, there was a lot less slack in the drivetrain.
