Clutch Questions: Input Needed...

Well my SS/SC with 42K miles on it is in need of a clutch. While running my buddies '97 Saleen S-281 (non S/C) the other night, it started slipping horribly under hard shifts(would just bounce off the rev limiter instead of catching). Yes, I did beat him lol. So a call to my local Chevy dealer resulted in a $1450 estimate for the job, claiming I would need a bunch of parts, including a new flywheel. My questions are:
1.) Is this a reasonable price for a dealer installed, OEM clutch, or am I getting raped?
2.) Can just a new clutch be installed without the flywheel (using the same or resurfaced)?
3.) I am considering an aftermarket clutch. Which one would be best for my needs? The car has minor bolt-ons now, but a Stage kit, 1/4 mile runs as well as being a daily driver is planned.
4.) Any other input, suggestions, etc. will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

You have a couple of options. First, you can baby it for a while and see if everything is okay. The clutches on the SS can be finicky, but glazing it can be avoided by driver input. A clutch install will probably be 5+ hours, which isn't cheap. If I were you, while everything is opened up, I would replace both the clutch and flywheel with aftermarket ones. Guys on here seem to like Spec and Exedy.

you may have just glazed it...there is a how to on stopping clutch slip... I had my first clutch replaced at the dealer and it came to right around 1000bux. that was for a new clutch and them to resurface the flywheel. but apparently the dealer charge to resurface said flywheel is around 90-100dollars, and its about 12-130 for a brand new one...
