Clutch slippage?
Clutch slippage?
So, my car was just in the shop for the last month (literally, 30 days). During that time, they changed the oil and rotated the tires for me while they were doing some other warranty work. One thing that is different is that they put synthetic oil in the engine, whereas, the last 3 oil changes I had, it was non-synthetic. So, last night and this morning, I noticed that when I'm driving, only in 4th and 5th gear, if I'm at 3000 RPM and I punch it, the RPM spikes up to 3500 RPM and then drops back down to 3000 RPM. However, I don't experience this at all in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear. Any ideas? The car is a 2010 and only has 25,000 miles. If it is the clutch, I take it it's not covered under warranty. And I don't beat on the car either.

yikes. no no for 4th and 5th. if your gonna punch it at 3k rpms be in 1st or 2nd, POSSIBLY 3rd at most. never higher gears. puts too much load on the clutch
So, you're saying when you're on the highway, going 70 MPH in 5th gear, and you want to pass someone without downshifting, flooring it to go from 70 to 80 MPH is abuse on the clutch? First I've heard of it. And this car is still stock, aside from the GMS1 that was installed. And just my opinion, I think that's ridiculous if that's considered abuse. Just because I want to pass someone without actually having to accelerate hard, if that makes any sense.
as stated. its just too much load for our cars to floor it at low rpm in a high gear. downshift to 4th and gas it a little. That will not hurt anything and takes .5 of a second to downshift as if you were daily driving.

you know what maybe it IS a gear issue if its only happening in those 2 gears. i'm actualy kind of having the same issue in 2nd and 3rd gear where it 'slips'
think (if its the gears) it could have been caused by grinding the gears a few times? it did happen to me just a few times letting off the clutch too early or trying to clutchless shift...

gears arent broken or you would hear grinding and other bad noises and you can floor it whenever you want but your clutch is going out as with all gm clutches they suck alot the presure plate on all gm clutches have issues put a real clutch in it and your good to go if there are no bad sounds and rpms are going up and no moving you could have glazed your clutch and its slipping under load if you let someone else drive your car that could be why clutches wear to the driver
Well, the car seemed to be driving fine for the last couple of days. Then last night, it was doing it again, but once again, only in 4th and 5th gear. Maybe it's the tranny itself?
