cobalt tranny cooler lines
cobalt tranny cooler lines
Hi guys,
I have a 2009 Cobalt automatic (not SS). The car has 62000KM (4x000 miles) and has been on the road 2.5 years. I Krown rust proof it twice since I had it (Aug 2008).
I was at the GM dealer yesterday. They said it needs the tranny cooler lines replaced.
Ok ... there is no fluid dripping on the ground, zero. Unfortunately, I read there is no longer a dipstick to check the level. It is currently -27C outside, so I have no plans to crawl under it.
On the mechanic checklist, the guy wrote transmission lines leaking.
I am calling BS on this, because I am sure it is a cash cow $231+tax was the quote.
Does anyone know if this is indeed a common problem? Or does this smell fishy?
If I should be posting this somewhere else, forum or otherwise, please let me know.
Thanks ...

Parts rust. Sometimes it just happens.
And on the grand scheme of things... $230 for a repair at the dealership isn't really making anyone alot of money. For instance. Two keyless entry remotes, one key + programming etc etc = over $300.
So if he said they're starting to rust through, its possible that they will need to be replaced soon. You may not have a leak now, but you may develope one in the future.
