i had GM do some warranty work on the synchros in my trans and while they had it off i figured id have them change out the clutch too...spoke with the dealership this morning and asked them to make sure to cut the flywheel and he said hed get back to me on whether or not that was even possible....

whats the deal here?? can/should the flywheel be cut?? its an exedy stage 1 clutch if that makes any difference

by cut do you mean resurfaced / turned down? if so, Yes it should be easy for them to do. just like turning down a brake rotor.

it normal to have a flywheel resurfaced.. Infact anytime you put a new clutch kit in you should resurface the flywheel or replace if its to bad..You what it resurfaced because the clutch disc is sandwiched between the flywheel and the pressure plate. your pressure plate is new and perfectly even, so you need to have the flywheel resurfaced so its close to perfectly even and there are no dips or hotspots.. Doing this keep the clutch disc from chattering and makes for a smooth engage..

well you have to inspect it first, if it has cracks or severe hot spots you cant machine it and it would need to be replaced. Also, most dealers dont have the ability to machine flywheels and they get sent to a local machine shop to have that done.

How did you get your clutch replaced under warranty? Also my dealership said I had to buy a new flywheel for my car since I couldn't put an aftermarket clutch on the stock flywheel...is this true?
