Drivetrain Loss

Hey guys! I've got a quick theoretical question for you: what would need to be done to our cars to reduce some of the drivetrain loss? And would doing modifications to the drivetrain be worth the cost if someone wanted to get a few more horses to the ground? I am not thinking of doing anything along these lines, but I was wondering what other people thought. Thanks.
