F23 shifter side to side play

So I disassembled my assembly to install the Cosmo STS, bolted it back together, and I had crazy side to side play. I had close to none before. So i disassembled it and put the stock shifter back in and I still have the side to side play with the stock shifter! I'm looking at it, and the main pivot ball lifts on the right side of the cup. It floats in there. So i'm thinking I could have stretched the cup out from swapping it from shifter to shifter? What do you think? BTW, the cosmo STS was amazing, besides the play. The throws were incredibly short. I took pics, just wanna fix this first.

I just assumed this was normal and didn't bother putting the old one back in. Oh well it still shifts fine there is just more play.

Whatever it still works, if you find I way to fix it I'd love that but if not it's no big deal. I too noticed the new one could move around the main ball socket kind of assumed it was because of a poor design.

yeah Cosmo said they would send me a new one. I might return it for a BPS, since Cosmo is only 20 bucks cheaper and BPS has a better reputation.

My Twm has no play, but I feel like the cable clamps bind together or catch the shifter base sometimes. Usually a quick shift up or down fixes it, but I feel I shouldn't have to do that.
