Fluid for the SS/SC Tranny

As the title states, Im trying to figure out what fluid goes in this tranny. I've checked the owners manual, and it states 1.8quarts of AUTOMATIC TRANNY FLUID?! That doesn't seem right to me, but I've seen somewhere that it takes some specific GM Manual tranny fluid. If anyone could actually tell me what the hell to put in the damn thing I would appreciate it.

a clutch doesnt require a drain and fill.. i've done 2 in the past week and i didnt drain them. i only had to add a little due to fluid coming out when i pulled the axles. you shouldnt need to drain all the fluid though

surprised no one mentioned this.....

auto trans fluid is used in most manual transmssions these days. Not sure why but GM thinks its good. Stick with it. You can go Mobil1 ATF is you wish.

actually, gm calls for 21018899 for the trans in an ss/sc, which is a gear lube from saturn, not atf.

When I had my SS S/C it definitely did not call for ATF. Intense sells what you need. Or if you happen to feel motivated, use the search button and you'll find out it's just fully synthetic 90W gear oil. You can try ordering the correct lube from your stealership, but expect it to take quite some time if they don't have it in stock. I gave up after 2 weeks of waiting.

Any GM dealership should be able to get it.

i know. but it says saturn in big red letters on it which is why i call it saturn fluid. and you'd have better luck getting it at a saturn dealership considering every time i need it we have to go pick some up

There you go. That should do it. At least when I took my owners manual to my local stealership that's the stuff I had them order.

Ok there is the part number, missed it.

So I imagine Crate Engine Depot would have this. I shall see.

Just go here and type in the part number. It's $7.38

Has any body thought about using Royal Purple Synthetic ATF fluid? Would this work for our cars(ss/sc)?

im assuming mobil 1 ATF is safe for the auto trans....and id imagine safer than for a manual for obvious reasons

is it okay to mix transmission fluid types? i just bought my transmission cooler and will need to top off the tranny fluid when its installed....n i dont know if i should just replace it all or just top it off
