Completely stock 07 here. I get this problem every now and then, and all I do to fix it is:
  1. [*]
  2. [*]
  3. [*]
Shifting to 2 isnt neccessary but its just part of the little obsessive compulsive routine I've created for fixing the problem. :P

I had to get the entire reverse assembly in the transmission changed to stop my reverse grinding issue, fun times.

I have the issue too. It happens with first for me as well. no grnding but just won't go in. I just pop it into a different gear usually and it fixes it.

I have trouble now and then when it is cold. I put it in 4th then R and it goes smooth.

Same. I go to 2 first, then 1 goes in like butter.

I always put it into 1st before neutral. Happens on a ton of manual cars. No big, once you start doing it, u wont even notice it.

Angry Happens to me too now

My car doesn't shift in to reverse now.
I've had some minor issues with my shifter gate, but now something has moved to a point where I don't have the ability to get it into reverse.
I might add I've been driving this car for 120,000+ km and it has not done this before.
Anyone here have anything to offer other then 'take it to the dealer'?

I need to have a mechanic check this out before I take to those vultures.

Yes, thanks I've tried that and the other four 'pre-shift' proceedures yourself and others have suggested.

I've been driving manual gearboxes for about 24 years and do understand issues with syncromesh or spinning mass in the gearbox, however, I can't even get gearclash, it's like R is missing all together... no positive shift. Don't matter if I have the clutch in or not.

Sitting at Mr Transmission now

Waiting to see what the problem is with my transmission, it seems to be a linkage issue.

On another note, we did discover that the people who changed my air filter at the lube shop have busted off a plastic peg with a braided steel hose going down to the turbo....
Anyone know what this hose is and what happens when it's busted off?

Angry Car for Sale

OK, my trip to Mr T shows me that on top of the shoddy engineering in the brakes, the shifter mechanism is screwed. I've never done anything but ginger shifts, might have missed one or two but I don't hang off the controls when I'm driving.

This part installed is $560 plus tax.

Anyone on here come across this one before?

If it's your shifter assembly try buying a new one as they can be had for alot cheaper than 500+$ A member on here had sloppy shifts and got a new shifter assembly and it cured his problem, The issue with the lockout ring on the shifter is Reverse is not right below 5th so if your not all the way aligned it wont go in! It's off to the side alittle and if you dont get it right reverse is alittle tricky to get into but try selecting second and fourth keep the clutch in and make sure it's all the way to the right of the shift pattern BEFORE trying to put it in reverse with the lock ring pulled up that is of course!

That hose is your pcv valve. You better get a new intake or something. You're sucking in nasty air and your turbo is prob junk now. Depending on how long its been like that, you could have damaged rings/cylinder walls too. I'd be calling the guy who replaced your filter up and put some tape over that intake if youre gonna run it like that. Idk what u mean by going to turbo tho. It def goes to the valve cover.
