Help Axle Shaft Snapped
UPDATE COBALT DEAD
First run of the day . Did not go in to the water at all lined up staged and the light went green . The whole car started to shake like the wheel hopp scenario and all the sudden it went boom and the car stopped moving. We pushed the car back out of the way and had to wait for my friends dad that lived near by to pick us up with a flat bed. I now have it towed to his dads place. The driver side CV joint is gone . I did lower the tire pressure to 27 lbs on the front . It seem like it gripped so good tha the axle shaft just could not take it.
Now I called Murrays and Auto zone and they both do not stock the part and will not get the part unit 06/28/207. PLEASE SOMEONE THAT KNOWS THE PART NUMBER AND PLACE TO GET THE PART LET ME KNOW!!!!
I'm afraid to take it to the dealership with my mods (poly mounts) and that they will blame it on that.

stock bald tires is what I had on it . Does anyone one know how much the replacement stock ones are or what the part numbers are from the dealership. I tried every local parts place and they said that it is not even in their system. Seems like it is a dealership only part
What really pisses me off is that I put the things in to prevent the axle shafts from snapping and then they still did on stock tires.
If I take the ITB off and take it to the dealership do you think they might cover it?

if you're gonna spend that kind of cash, might as well go big and get heavy duty--esp if you're going to be drag racing.
Here's some heavy duty steering knuckles, replacement control arms and whatnot--couldn't find any axles though, sorry!

Damn, how does that happen on stock tires? With my setup I get no hop, at least until I broke one of the CABs, now I get hop on that side, so I've been driving pretty easy and no going to the track. I'll be fixing it tomorrow though, and I think me and my boy with an SRT4 are going to the local 1/8 on wednesday night.

the car doesn't hop on the street because there less traction, any time you bump traction(stickier tires, track surface, ect the forces on the suspension to deflect grow by a large amount...thus the hop. keep ya posted tommorw morning

Unless you take off some of those mods the dealer will say that its your fault but then again it depends on the dealer and where you got it and if worse casue buy the new stage 2 drive cv boots

UPDATE.:
Chevy dealership supplier discount 228.50 for one side.
Ordered the DDS left side only from Ultra rev 398 with shipping
don't have to worry about having it towed 80 miles for the dealership to tell me something that I already know .. no warranty. So I fix it where it lays

How did you get a discount on the DSS axles?? Also I dont have an LSD in my car so pretty much the only axle I can break is the driver side right?? Grand Am axles?? Are you serious, do these fit or what??

UPDATE: Well the cobalt is alive again.
I received the shaft in the mail on 07/13/2007 and installed it yesterday. The only problem I ran into was the lower ball joint would not come out till I put a flat head screw driver in between the knuckle to pry open where the shaft of the ball joint was. Then it was simple, pull on the shaft and the it came out along with some oil. Not enough for me to spend the time to refill it.
So I test drive it and under acceleration the car pulls to the left like torque steer because of the new shaft. Other than that no vibrations at high or low speeds .
Now I just have to save up for the other side.
