help! shifter wont go in gear after clutch install

i had the gm ungraded clutch installed on my 05 a week ago.

when i got my car back everything worked great except now the shifter doesnt go all the way into 3rd gear position. it almost basically doesnt click into gear and will actually pop out and go back into nuetral when shifting into it unless i hold it up there (which i know is just as bad to do)

anyway, the shop said they will research on what it is that holds the shifter into gear and look at it again on monday.

i really need help on this ones because i have a feeling the shop is gonna try and pin this on me when i KNOW it wasnt doing this until after they did the clutch install.

TOB has nothing do to with your symptom.

Sounds like the linkage got out of adjustment when they removed and reinstalled the transmission. All that should be needed is a simple shift linkage adjustment to make it right again.

yep, just pop out your cup holders and adjust the shifter linkage so that neutral is farther back letting the stick travel further foward going all the way in gear without running out of throw.

put the stick in neutral to start, then look for the clips, they are interesting the way they clamp down on the shift rod. wiggle the shifter foward and backward to locate the right one. then just pry up on the grey part of the clip and make neutral further back more towards the center. then just push the clip back down where you want it to stay.

you may need to do this a few times to get it perfect.

It's either the linkage, or possibly a 3rd gear synchro, maybe a fork. Mine started popping out of 5th, got it apart and discovered the 5th synchro was toast. I hope it's just the linkage, but it seems that if it was the problem, it would affect more than just 3rd gear.

yeah, i can feel it a little bit in first and5th also but im guessing since they are off to the side it just holds it in a little better and doesnt pop back to neutral. hopefully its just the linkage.

Sounds like a bad 3rd gear synchro to me. Could also be a bent shift fork, but I'm not sure how common that is in these transmissions.

so the gears are all back to normal.

apparently there was some kind of tube in the way blocking it from going all the way into the gears.

funny thing is he even said it was an after market line that was in the way lol
