Yeah im mostly interested in adding a bike rack to my car, but I was debating a Yakima roof system. Or a hidden hitch system (would serve the dual function of towing.. ) lol
But the boat isnt much more than 200lbs on the hitch, total weight is about 2000lbs though.

1000lb hitch weight is probably 100 tongue weight. Doubling it isn't going to do anything any good. I didn't think the ss was rated to tow anything.

i figured you could get a hidden hitch and tow a sport bike on a motorcycle trailer... that'd be well under 1000lbs...
and why wouldnt you be able to tow with a ss? bigger brakes, stronger suspension parts, better clutch... i wouldnt try towing 1000lbs while having 4 people in the car and trunk full of luggage but i dont see an issue with something small...

"Towing a Trailer
(Manual Transmission)
Do not tow a trailer if the vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission."
straight from the 09 owners manual
and from the 07's
Towing a Trailer (Manual Transaxle)
Do not tow a trailer if your vehicle is equipped with a manual transaxle. If you have the Cobalt SS, you can tow a trailer. See “Towing a Trailer” in the Index for more information.
,
so t/c's deffinetly cannot tow a trailer
but the wording in the 07 is a little confusing either you can't tow with a manual unless it's an SS or you can tow with the ss as long as its the 2.4 auto
im leaning towards the latter

I've done some towing with the 2.4ss 5spd. Hitch is a Drawtite. Single jetski in summer and sled in winter, each around 1000lbs fully loaded , including trailer. Gets 25mpg @ 55mph and 21-22 @ 70 towing sled, add 2-3mpg better for towing jetski(aerodynamics really help). Tows just fine, but you def know its back there when braking. Another 1000lbs plus would REALLY be pushing it imo. With that said, I'm contemplating pulling an 1800lb(with trailer) jetboat 2 miles to the local launch this year with mine. Won't be doing any long distance trips though. I'm sure it will do it, but its gonna be a huge stress on the car, and being over the rated towing limit will not favor your case when/if you got into an accident while towing, regardless of who's fault it was. If you do it, be sure to post pics!
