Hurst short throw shifter on ls cobalt?

Hey everyone,

I have finally started working on my cobalt for the gf and am now buttoning up the interior renovation (will make a build log for everyone shortly)

Last night i picked up a hurst short throw shifter for a a good price local and was unsure if it will fit an ls base model since it was on an ss car. I planned on swapping out the factory one for the simple reason that the one in the car is gross and for some reason has a melted/ sticky feeling and i cant take it. The other reason was so i can swap knobs with screw ons when I feel the need to change it up lol.

So the question which I have been trying to find is can i put this shifter on my car with no modification, I am willing to do some if needed but not looking to make this some crazy project. Anyone do this to a base model with ease????????

Have yet to see if anyone has done this, but I'm going to say no it won't work. Twm and bps make great shifters for the base models, yet pricey. There are other options though. I'd just try to unload the one you acquired. Pm me for other options.

Is there that big of a difference between the two submodels, i wouldnt think it would be so specific but hell what do i know, im new to cobalts. My other idea was to pull my factory shifter and have it threaded, my father is a retired macehinist and could possibly have access to a shop

The SS has reverse lockout whereas the base doesn't. As for knobs, I believe bps makes an adaptor for the stock shifter to accept aftermarket knobs. Could always be a guinea pig and try to put it in for fun.

Well by looking at it there is just a punched in pin that holds the reverse lock section in, by removing the pin i would be able to take that hole section right off with still having the actual shifter? would the bottom ball and teo pegs be the same? if so i can deff make it work

Not sure. Never looked at both to compare together. Maybe someone else will chime in to help.
