I think I fried my clutch today-no more dyno or 1/4 baseline's?

Hey guys. I was driving my car today, and when I came to a stop sign followed by open road, I decided to practice a launch since I planned on going to the track Tuesday. I launched at about 1800 rpm's, major wheelspin followed. NO wheelhop!! Anyway, I slammed 2cnd gear and nothing. It jumped to redline and the car wouldn't go anywhere. It stunk REAL bad and I could see some smoke. I can still drive the car, and if I nail it from a roll, it seems to still do ok. But I don't think it will do me any good to go to the track with it-it's not going to hold. I'm debating whether or not to still dyno it. Just thought I'd let everyone know. Oh, this was on a bone stock car, and YES I know how to drive a clutch.

Thumbs up

you can smell your clutch a few times before it goes

your clutch may have been to hot

try to launch from normal rpms only people i see with clutch problems is with pulley kits and 1/4 mile junkies launching at 1.5+ k

now if you drive normal and your gears start slipping that is a bad thing,
I know this works for hondas you may wanna try this put her in third (flat ground) go to 1k feather the clutch until it starts to move good then let it go into gear if it pops out of gear then your clutch is done
try 4th also (alot harder to do)

I've smelled the clutch several times now-everytime I drive it (even if driven easy). I've seen several stock clutches go with no mods. If it won't hold on the street for a 1800rpm launch, it won't hold at the track in my opinion. I'm still going to try to hit the dyno. Oh, it's popped out of first gear under normal driving a couple times.

You can still dyno the car. it wont effect you much, if any at all. My stock clutch is slipping badly.. and the car is still stock. I just went to the dyno 2 weeks ago. I dyned 220 WHP in 3rd gear, and 215WHP in 4th. I could smell the clutch burning some at the very end of each run. But it still showed some good numbers. Don't waste your time going to the track though. Your clutch is probably F'ed.

Thanks for your reply. The dyno is still on . I think you're right about the track though. I'm getting a new clutch and flywheel installed before IDDVII. That's retarded that you gotta spend ~$1300.00 before you can even take the car to the track or mod the car .

Your dyno will suffer if the clutch slips.

Yeah, fast06ss had a low dyno when his was slipping. He said that when he got his fixed, it felt like he got back 50hp.
