install problem with hurst
okay, just tried to install the hurst. seemed like everything went well although alot of it was a pain, but in all installed resonably. only one problem. not reverse lockout, it goes into reverse just fine. installed the shifter itself has play like you go to grab and you can twist the shifter and the top of the knob will stay in place. i must have installed something wrong just not sure what any ideas? thanks
I would like to help but I get confused reading what happens when grab the shifter. does the ball rotate in your hand? Is that the problem? Or is it the reverse lock out mechanism that's not working correctly?
I am on the verge of purchasing the Cobalt SS superchrged. I plan to get the Stage two upgrade but have two concerns. The warranty (i understand) has a deductible? how does that work and when do you have to pay a deductible? from the beginning? my second concern is over the limited slip diff.. i know its a good idea, but is it a necessity with this set up (i.e. stage 2 upgrade?). any other options that i should have or u recommend let me know and i appreciate it.. thanks a lot..
it sounds like you didn't re-use some of the stock parts and/or may have removed too much. The stock shaft on mine ended with the plastic ball on the end...that's the one that's replaced with metal on the Hurst. I wish I had install pics but I don't.
yeah the plastic ball but it didnt end there it kept going past that another plastic piece and the part that originally hooked up to the shift cables. the part that hooked into that was L shaped and the hurst piece is an I shape it goes straight down and connects to the shift cable and the causes the shift cable to have play more than just between shift gears
Answer to the problem was the thread that screws into the shaft of the shifter from hurst. The screw that goes into the side of the ball needs to be ridicolously tight or else it will cause the shaft of the shifter to move. So for future refernce if shaft of the hurst wont stay put its because of the screw on the side of the shifter needs to be tighter

i cant tighten the screw because there is loctite on it, and its stripped, its very tight! It should not make a diff, i think its the cables, i hope the dealer can fix this tomm. I will keep this thread updated
well im completely messed up the cables i only have a 3rd and 4th gear, i regret installing this and not waiting till tues for the dealer, but luckily i work at chevy and its going in the shop to get taken care of
im having the same problem with my hurst where its has play on the shaft...i know its the allen screw, but i cant tighten it anymore, i think the screw is stripped, but i can still put an allen in it and remove it just cant tighten anymore...any fixes for this? can we use a different screw or where can we get screws like that. Well i guess i should call hurst tech support tomorrow and let you guys know.
i have another question...i was reading on the forum and saw guys were adjusting the cables...intstalling my hurst i didnt adjust nothing just followed the instructions... did i have to do some type of adjusting? if so where and how do i do this?
