Doing this right now. Just wondering how to get the cables off the old bracket. Is there a release mechanism or do I just pop them off with force?

Just pop them off with a pry bar. Be gentle

 

Yeah I ended up getting them off. The collars on the back were being quite the annoyance.

 

Yeah you definitely don't use a prybar. You have to pull up on the collar and they come right off. We tried prying until we relized that didnt work haha

 

You and I both, I put a screw driver behind the collar, popped it out, and was like...oh. Haha.

 

Too bad I read this now.... I ended up giving up and puuting everything back together. I guess now that I know how to do it I'll give it another go..... Man it's tight in there..

 

I haven't attempted it yet but everyone says it was easy..
I've seen how hard it is to actually get to the bracket. I'm just worried I won't be able to get the linkages off.

 

Helps with two people. One under the car pushing up/prying with a small screwdriver and another with a long screwdriver pushing from the top. This method worked on my car and my friends car a week or two ago when we did his.

 

Pry bar works for me just fine. Gentle is the key as Mongorat stated.

 

Are you guys pulling on them to release tension? Pull collar back, lift/pry up, pops out.

FOUND THE ISSUE why some are having difficulty removing the cables from the bracket: As you access the shifter bracket through the wheel well, the cable bracket that is closest to the drivers side (the lower cable/3-4 gear) can't be removed until the cable above and behind it (1-2 gear) is released from the bracket first. The slide lock on the upper cable, due to clearance issues, keeps the lower (3-4 gear) cable from popping out of the bracket.

Do yourselves a favor and unbolt the upper and lower bracket assembly, pull the lower bracket out of the car, so that you can maneuver the upper cable bracket around and release the upper/1-2 gear cable FIRST. Now the lower one will pop out when released.
