Go to this site: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm

That should help you understand how the LSD works. Go through the first few pages, and eventually it will discuss the LSD.

Taking lsd will make you confused alright.

An lsd is designed to transfer torque to the wheel that has more resistance ineffect reversing the natural rule that torque/power takes the path of least resistance. Our style lsd is more designed for cornering. a clutch type lsd would be better for burnouts imho

Lots of people confuse an LSD with a TBD differential.

A Limited Slip Diff (LSD) does allow *some* tirespin and will transfer torque to the wheel with the most grip once the other wheel spins beyond a certain threashold dependingon the clutch packs and spring settings.

A Torque-Biased Diff does not allow hardly any slip at all due to the use of gears. Torque is always being variabley spilt between both front wheels so that both wheels will not slip. TBD's are great in the snow

The G85 is a ATB diff from quaife (ATB = Autmatic Torque-Bias) - Different way of saying TBD.

Take a look here for more info: http://www.quaifeamerica.com/differentials/diffs.htm

If i spin the tires with the wheels turned I hear a grinding (not exactly "grinding" but a weird noise nonetheless) noise...Is this the lsd kicking in or is my car fucked up?
