LSD Help

Ok, so I bought a 2010 Cobalt SS. Yay me, but there is one problem though...It did not come with a factory LSD. Long story short, I was stupid and didn't do my homework, now I got to pay for it. Heres what I would like to know cause I've been researching this and I can't seem to come up with some answers.

1. If I bought the LSD that is used on the cobalt (Quaife) and got it installed, would it void my warranty?

2. How much would do you think it would be to have one installed and where should i go to get it done (dealership, private shop)

3. I've seen some cheaper (much cheaper) LSDs on the market for this car. Has anyone used them? Would they void the warranty? Are they reliable?

4. The dealership I bought the car from mentioned something about buying a whole new transmission with an LSD attached if I wanted one. Is this true?

5. If I got the tools and some instructions, would I be able to do the labor myself?

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I look forward to your answers...if any lol,

The only truly cost effective method is if you cant do the work yourself is to get another trans with LSD in it already.

Buying a Quaife, and installing it into your trans will cost within about $200 of buying a BRAND NEW G85 tranny.......

Putting an OBX diff into your box would cost about as much to do as it would cost you to buy a used G85 tranny. the OBXs have marginal(at best) reputation. Even if you completely go through it and do the necessary mods and upgrades its still not as good as the Quaife. And if you take into account your time mod'ing an OBX and installing it would cost more than a used tranny.

Also if you buy another trans instead of puttin in a diff you will have the added bonus of having a spare tranny

1. If I bought the LSD that is used on the cobalt (Quaife) and got it installed, would it void my warranty? technically, yes absolutely. Should your trans fail with an LSD in it would likely be denied warranty.

2. How much would do you think it would be to have one installed and where should i go to get it done (dealership, private shop) not including transmission removal/replacement youre looking at $500-700 to get a diff installed. Very few shops are qualified to do the work, private or dealer. Always specifically ask if they have done the job before

3. I've seen some cheaper (much cheaper) LSDs on the market for this car. Has anyone used them? Would they void the warranty? Are they reliable?Yes. Yes warranty voided if it fails. No, they are basically a grenade if you install them as delivered to you.

4. The dealership I bought the car from mentioned something about buying a whole new transmission with an LSD attached if I wanted one. Is this true? Yes, this is probably the best option

5. If I got the tools and some instructions, would I be able to do the labor myself? Its highly unlikely youve got the tools or could get them

pay $600 something for a used g85. if you can't install that yourself, i'd say you're looking at another $500~ for install costs. but also while you've got it apart you may as well get an upgraded clutch so that's an extra $500+

any time you mod something, the cost goes up substantially than from when initially thought of

ya, go for a used G85 from an SS /SC or HHR SS, they have a shorter final drive.
